You know it's time to leave the band when......

So recently I left my old band. We were decent so that had nothing to do with it. Our original singer that had started in the band left a last month ago so that's when I started thinking about leaving also. The "replacement" singer was our drummers girlfriend, who I didn't think was good but i couldn't tell them that cause the drummer thought she was amazing. So thought got me closer to leaving. What pushed me over the edge though, was when the guitarist thought that renaming the band "home schooled sweethearts" was an awesome idea. :scowl: I got my stuff together and left practice right then and there.

So my question for you is, when do you know that it's time for you to leave the band???

There are few things I'd rather do than play music, so when I'd rather be doing something else as I play, it's time to disappear, at least for awhile. All kinds of things can precipitate that feeling, but when it comes, something is stale.

Yup.. that I believe just happened to me.. I have a bit of a problem connected to my real job. It's called second shift and possible 6-7 day work weeks. A couple months back I sat down w/the bandleader and explained my situation. I offered to just back out, but the bandleader insisted I just take some time off and see what happens after first of the year. I was under the impression anytime I could make it for a gig I'd let them know and that would be it... Not so fast...
A few weeks back I contacted the bandleader about the possibility of my being able to make the gig the following weekend.. A week ahead of time.. Was told "it was already promised to the sub"... Seems to me they're making the full-time commitment to the so-called sub..

Thats ok.. When I get my employment situation fixed I'll find a better band..

When you have been playing the same songs for 2 years (learning no new songs) and the band still flubs those songs.

Or when you get to get together for practice and waste 15 minutes asking each other. "What do you want to play?" "I don't know, what do you want to play." (Mind you this is a band that has talking about "going pro" yet can never find time to practice together because everyone is so busy with other things. Then when they do get together they can decide what songs to practice.

Actual situations I have been in.
Most were from the same two bands :rollno:

When you have to hold the singer/guitarist in an upright position while he insists, "No, dudes, I can play! Practice isn't over yet!" Then he trips over his mic stand and passes out.

When the drummer insists, "we need to cover more Jimmy Buffet tunes!"

When your drummer shows up and proceeds to mack on your wife while you're not home.

When the guitarist runs off with the drummer's fiance'.
OR
When the drummer's now ex fiance' moves back into the house after living with the now ex guitarist for 3 months.

When you show up for an audition and find out the drummer is a guy on a bucket.

When you find out the bass player in the drummer's other band is using your gear without your knowledge and/or consent.
