You know it's time to leave the band when......

It's time to leave the band when the lead singer insists on bringing his girlfriend on the tour bus and participate in band meetings.

Personal story:

The two guitarists decided to switch from a cover band format with a catalog of popular tunes to a ... Tesla tribute band. Tesla ?!? "Really?!?" (insert South Park impression).

The drummer and the bassist (me) decided to leave and to find a new guitarist and singer and to concentrate on popular covers (practice #3 tonight and we love the guitarist).

I asked them several times "Are you REALLY sure? You know you will not find anybody to join your Tesla cover band, right?"

Answer was: "see you on the bar circuit" (as in "we'll make it but you won't").

As of today, they are still looking (been a month now)

Sad part is they are good guitarists, these two.

wow, as soon as you said tesla i thought of that ad. i've come across it a few times while lookin for a band, but thought "i'm not THAT desperate..." small world eh?

When it's show time and one of your bandmates is nowhere to be found and you call them and they say, "oh man, I forgot we have a gig tonight. I'll be right down."

Bail then.

And/or, when the number of people in the audience is regularly less than the number of people in your band.

When the leader says "Hey guys, great news! My wife has agreed to manage the band!"

+1. anytime a band member suggest his significant other be a controlling force in the band is time to run!!!! god forbid they breakup, your band goes down in flames. or if you disagree with her on something, the boyfriend(your bandmate) will have to take her side. its an ugly situation all the way around.

@nickinmesa - (offtopic) I dig those tags, but tagging is for bland concrete stuff. I don't dig tagging up historic buildings.

My band has been in limbo since July when our drummer quit. He quit because our guitarist, the band leader, is a bit too controlling. We have been stalled because the guitarist doesn't want to move forward until we get another drummer. Not wanting to start from square-one, I'm sticking it out to see if any other drummers want to come on-board. I will know it's time to quit when A) we can't get another drummer because of our band leader, or B) the guitarist starts "vetoing" my ideas or otherwise stalling the band because of his "guidelines."
