You least favorite finishes

Trans teal. Blueburst. Those red sunbursts that don't fade to black. Anything that naturally goes with figured maple tops and gold hardware, basically. Yuck.

LOL. I really love all natural wood finishes, with or without them stained. The only exceptions include
1. I dislike Mike Tobias' sunburst stains over natural wood... especially the Dennis Rodman green/yellow/green.
2. I dislike just about all Buckeye Burl tops. They look like vomit to me. I had a couple of chances to see and touch buckeye up close before they were to be used on basses. They were so soft like dry sponges. I could squeeze parts of it in between my fingers. I can only imagine it being like adding a pillow to the tone of the instrument.

I also dislike the Antigua and most sunbursts, especially tobacco sunburst.

I hear ya. I had a Rally Red ’67 Stingray, and it was hot. I got a great deal on a Lightwave SL-5. killer sound, smallish/sleek body, and red… can’t stand the looks of it.

Have you looked at the Alex Webster signature spector? (It can come without the blood decal)

Faux age/relic finishes. Otherwise there's not a particular color that I hate. They all have their place on certain basses. I think it's the combination of a style with a color that doesn't compliment or fit it that's the worst.

Surprised not many mentioned black. Ugh, when I see black it reminds me of this:

They all seem ugly and cheap, at least the ones with dark fingerboard colors (black and rosewood, black and ebony). I love black and maple. There will only be one exception:

The natural finish basses that I like are the ones that are lighter in color and closer to the real natural color of the wood. I’m not fond of the ones that are stained brown. To me they look like a Mr. Hanky bass. In other words, made from poo.

Most of my basses are oil-finished walnut. No poop jokes, please.

Black, white or wood all look good no matter what color the stage lighting. They "adapt" to the colors.

I really don't HATE any colors, but you gotta ask... "What the heck were they thinking when they came up with that Antigua combo?. Looks like a boiled egg gone bad.

Totally unprecedented, even with the edged pickguard. I'd have loved to been in the boardroom when they brought in THAT finish prototype!
