I love black/black/maple too -- but with chrome hardware for contrast.
The only finish that sickens me is the typical Fender finish : black bass with white pickguard. Just add some colours to the pickguard just like Sandberg does : Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Black, custom painting etc. etc.
Oh, and I don't like it if a bass guitar doesn't have a matching headstock.

That's funny, reading all these posts I thought I didn't have a problem with any colors I love most Fender p bass color combos but I absolutely hate a Black and White p bass
A great sounding bass can compensate for an ugly color.
I had probably the best sounding late 70's P-bass with a maple neck and Antigua (avocado) burst that positively sang up and down the whole neck.
Traded it in college for an upright bass gig bag. Biggest trade regret to this day.

I am the exact opposite. I only like back and sunburst.
I do own a white bass but it's up for sale.

Black is dull to me but different strokes for different folks, does the world need yet another one? no.

What I see to often are some of my favorite finishes like black, seafoam green, surf green, powder blue, CAR with a tort pick guard that completely ruins the whole look of the bass.
I swear some people think tort goes with everything. IMHO tort should only be used on natural and white finishes. I will work on a burst but a black guard looks better.

Anything fancy. I like classic fender colours (black and sunburst.are my fav) but anything that is shinny or fancy, like sparkles, weird bursts or natural finishes just dont do it for me
lol those are my favorites
I dont like fiesta red (tomato soup), trans green, trans orange, blue burst and burg mist.
Black (you stopped trying), quilted maple (you're trying too hard), metallic anything (she's a dancing queen), neon (nice Dean you got there), bursts that involve anything but traditional colors (wow, you're different!), stickers (all my favorite bands I never heard of).

Yeah, in the minority apparently, love natural finish. Something organic about it, then again I'm the type to buy everything in its natural version and avoid anything looking artificial.
I really dislike colored basses, unless they have a pick guard, for some reason a tort pick guar just offsets the "gaudiness" factor I get from many basses.

Natural finishes are ones I'm not too fond of. Not that I hate them necessarily, on P or J basses they CAN look good... on the more modern ones (Ibanez, ESP etc.) I've never liked them. And then there are brown/translucent type of finishes, one of these for example:

But then again, I own an Antigua P, so that probably makes me a rather weird fellow as far as taste goes. Aaanyway.
