2 stories here...maybe 1 and 1/2. I used to be in a band in the Chicago area. "The Red, White & Blues Band" 
Ok, settle down... We used to play this club in Frankfort, IL and one night Moby Grape played the club and a few of us got to meet Jerry Miller, Peter Lewis and Bob Mosley. Jerry and Peter were Very Cool. Mosley was on the nod...
I also had a chat with Jerry Garcia once at "The Kinetic Playground" in Chicago, unfortunately not many words were exchanged as we were both peaking at the time.
That's the end of my brushes with highness, errrr greatness.

We just opened for HORSE the Band. Black Light Burns was supposed to headline, but Ex-Limp-Bizkit-Guitarist Wes Borland's throat hurt, so they canceled the night of.

I met BOC a short while ago when the performed at a local college (I think it was November?) I was working the sound booth and met them after the show and got to talk to them for a bit. They seemed nice enough.
Why, I just realized I can contribute to this thread. I went on tour with the Doomy McDoom band Link Removed, cool dudes, great band, needed a touring bassists, I subbed. I was offered the full time gig, but couldn't make the 30 mile drive to practice 3 days a week. Gas prices, I'm broke as a joke. Anyways, awesome bands we opened for/played with:

My favorite was back in the late 80s, opening for New Grass Revival at Toolie's in Phoenix AZ. Got to meet Sam Bush before the show, he was quite cordial. Their show was incredible! I was blown away. John Cowan's vocals were fabulous. Bela Fleck on banjo, awesome!
I spent half my paycheck on their merch, then went around for weeks saying they were the best band in the world!

My band, an Aerosmith tribute band called Draw the Line, opened for Eddie Money last year.
We did a radio station gig earlier this year with Bowling for Soup and KT Tunstall.
And just a couple weeks ago we opened for Head East, from way back when.

My first stage gig (we had one warmup coffehouse set the week before) with my new band was opening for Randy Travis on the fourth of July. I had heard of him, but not knowing much about country aritsts, didn't realize how big he was until I told some friends, who clued me in. When he started playing I was surprised how many of his tunes I had actually heard before.
My singer and guitarrist got to meet him, but I was off getting some ribs...

Last summer I got a call on a Thursday night to play with this band that was opening for Jimmy Buffet at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin on Saturday. It was hilarious. Instead of charts, all I got from the regular bassist were these HORRIBLE poorly written sort of a lead sheet/song form things. They were impossible to read and were pretty much useless. Of course, after trying to cram an hour and a half set in 48 hours I get an email from the band leader that says he has a book with all the "correct" charts at his place. So, I mostly sight read what was a bunch of really nice finale sheets. Kind of a nerve racking expierence. But the show was good...not that many Buffet fans are usually coherent enough to notice us anyways.

Only real big name was Edwin McCain, but I've met Ted Nugent on several occasions (and didn't find him to be a dung head at all), and did some studio work with John Elefante who used to play with Kansas.

Your obviously not a stoner rock/doom metal fan, and that's fine. It's usually not a 55 and older type crowd.

Actually, technically, it was Looker who blew that speaker. He was playing my bass guitar when it went, but it wasn't anything he did. He just happened to be playing it when it decided to go.
I just blew another 10# last month with my SWR. It was about 6 years old. So, I just replaced both ten's in my cab but one of the new ones didn't work so I have to take it back.
Golden Boy is famous around these parts as being a "sound nazi." That is because his rig puts out a sound that is second to none. Hey Golden Boy, you ought go with me and help me pick out my new rig. I want a whole new set-up. Top to bottom. I want mine to sound like yours. Wadda ya say?
