Your band Pet Peeves!

1# my pet peve- saxaphone players in a band that I'm in! especially if they stand right behind me blowing that god awful tool of the devil in my ear all night! Was in a band with one once (he came with the drummer either both or nobody kind of thing) I've lost so much appreciation for that instrument that if I ever hear one live in a bar I will leave!! Every gig he stood behind me and on the drum riser right in my ear!!!!!Saxaphone players =evil spawn of Satan!

Singers that don't own a mic or a PA
Or drummers!!!!Posted an add on CL for A drummer...... a couple years back... You wouldn't believe the amount of people that called and would say" hay I'll play drums for you guys I don't own a set so you guys have a set right? Or my favorite " I just moved to town I don't have a drum set here but My drum set is.....(hundreds of miles away, insert city name! in our case it was always Reno nv) so can I use your guys?"

Three piece band, we each suggest songs. As the bass player, I'm stuck with what the guitar player will learn. We do tons of songs he suggests, and a lot of the drummer's, but my songs sit in limbo until the guitar player gets around to learning them. None are hard, but do require some effort on his part, and he just never gets around to learning the songs I want to do. He likes the songs, and is enthusiastic initially but nothing after.

Not a biggie. We have plenty of songs...hundreds, so we aren't hurting for songs.

I'm in the same boat. I've even wrote up charts and cheat sheets to no avail.

Bandleader/singer feels the need to talk between songs about the next song coming up. Bandleader/singer will often drink whatever is brought up to him, I've seen him drink 5 shots of whiskey during the first set before. Drummer drinks whiskey before the gig and then can't keep it steady. Everybody else in the band noodles around between songs and before our sets. Youngest (20 y.o.) guy in the band is disrespectful and impetuous.
I'm grateful for the opportunity the band gave me for the past 6 years to get back into the local scene but I'll be glad when this ends in January, it's time for a change.

General pet peeve: Not getting paid for up to 90 days.

Pet peeve: People not paying attention during sound check and noodling over someone else's check.

My new pet peeve: Being told to sit on this week's check for another week because the BL doesn't have the funding due to another gig (I am not on) expenses, then bragging on facebook about going out for expensive coffees at said new gig.

Not So Minor pet peeve: People not doing homework and wasting rehearsal time.

Not So Minor pet peeve 2: House crew automatically on the crappy attitude train before I've said a word or played note 1.

Haha! I read these with a lot of amusement! Bad drummers, ugh!

I am enjoying the band i am in too, but..

One of the most common themes mentioned was "noodling".. How do we get them to stop?

Major pet peeve: People who say "my drummer". "my guitar player", "my Mormon Tabernacle Choir".
Minor pet peeve: Fellow bandmates who call the police when you beat them up.
Diminished pet peeve: People who make pets out of peeves. Peeves should be allowed to run free in their natural habitat. They sicken and die in captivity.

1st Monty Python actor dressed as working class woman: Why so sad?
2nd Monty Python actor dressed as working class woman: Oh, we're having our peeve euthanized tomorrow.
1st Monty Python actor dressed as working class woman: How sad! Is he sick?
2nd Monty Python actor dressed as working class woman: No, we just don't like him.

1. Band members who don't learn their parts for rehearsal and also mess those parts up during performance. Then look to me like I messed up. 99% of the time they look at me is to figure out where in the song they are....I get so tired of being the only one who knows a song's structure.

2. Guitarists who put their amp bass EQ at 10 (No wonder the stage volume is a booming mess of low freqencies) and then ask me to turn my bass amp volume down.

3. Noodling when someone is trying to talk or tune (this is less of an issue now with mute switches and built-in tuners on amps).

4. In my old cover band, guitarist would always say the songs I chose were too contemeporary and/or the sound was too retro. ***? I suggested we do 'Moneygrabber' by Fitz and the Tantrums - he said the whole 'Motown revival' thing was passe and the song would never be a hit. This is only one example, but you get the idea..

I forgot this one earlier. THE GUITARIST INSISTING ON A SOLO EVERY SINGLE SONG!!!!!!!!

Oh, this!

Our guitarist does good (interesting solos), but, I understand the general affliction with some guitarists.

Thank-goodness this sort of thing is now ancient history. Hopefully your new or upcoming band will recognise how awesome Motown is!

This is not a hate thread about your band, it is more of a venting space anout things that really annoy you about your current band, or a band you were previously in. Hopefully, it will relieve some tension.

My suggestion is to mention your pet peeve/s (yes, you can have more than one!), and how they effect you.

Here goes:

General pet peeve: band members who, after tuning their instruments, continue to 'noodle around' on said instrument for five-ten mins before getting into rehearsing the setlist.

Pet peeve: band members who noodle around on their instruments really loud, when another band member is trying to talk (make a point about a song, or band-related topic).

My new pet peeve: band members who insist on continuing to play really loud (noodle chords, phrases etc) when we're packing up. We've already had 2+ hours of LOUD music, why would i want to hear you play your splinteringly loud chords at 9pm, when i'm ready to come down and get into my car for the drive home?

Minor pet peeve: when band member suggests to work on XYZ songs, you prepare them, and rest of band don't do it adequately.

Minor pet peeve 2: I speak up when i know i'm right about a song structure, and i am told i am wrong!

Tell me yours.

I promise i will lend a sympathetic ear :-/
#1: playing while I'm tuning by ear.
#2: settling for less in terms of quality.
#3: not nailing your part.
#4: flakiness
