How many people use effects and how many people do not? I mean I read different things on some bass players and some say they do not use any of them. I use Aphex Big Bottom, Boss Overdrive, EBS Unichorus and a MXR-M80. I would like to get rid of the Boss Overdrive and EBS Uni. It seems like everybody uses effects and I feel like I have to. I am sorry for rambling on , does anybody feel this way? I love the sound of my WSSII , without any effects.

My chain has about 11 pedals in it right now.

My current most used is the Digitech Hot Head... then EHX Graphic Fuzz when I wanna really fuzz it up.

I also use delays and phasers quite a bit. I have 2 of each right now.

Depends on what I'm playing and the tone I want at the time.

Funk - split tone with direct into one amp and chorus, flanger, envelope filter, some distortion

Rock - clean, maybe a bit of compression

Metal - lots of effects depending on the tune and which section of the tune

Jazz - clean with the treble rolled off

Prog - chorus, flanger, distortion, phaser, tremolo, vibe, delay, etc

All depends on my mood. Fretless or fretted, 4 or 5 string, active or passive, tube or solid state, clean or any combination of compressor, overdrive, chorus, flanger, filters and what not. When I'm actually playing the same music with the same people over time I tend to stick to a particular loadout, otherwise anything goes.

My current setup is:

_____> Petersen Stroboflip
Bass > Boss SYB-5 > Boss OC-2 > Malekko B:Assmaster > Moog MF-101 > Mesa Walkabout Scout 15

The majority of my playing is clean; I only use effects for a couple of songs.
