your basses "names"

I have three basses right now:
Squier Affinity P-Bass named Louise
SX SPB-62 LPB fretless named Norma Jean (on her way to me)
Fender BG-31 acoustic named Mr. Black

Well, my bass is nicknamed "TEARS FOR JOHN".
I had this bass custom buildt as a tribute to John Entwistle and his Spyder basses.
The top and back are beautiful bird´s eye maple and someone on the Alembic forum said some time ago that the bird´s eyes look like tears and another one mentioned, knowing my love for my all time hero JE, that these are "Tears for John"......

+1...I've nerver been inclined to name my basses.I've had
so many i would'nt remember all of they're names anyways.
My EB-3 is "My Precious." The others are just "the Jazz," "the Precision," "the Smith," "the Stick," "the Gummy Bass," etc. I have an acoustic 6-string I call "the Tank," because it is built like one -- and sounds like one, too. 
I don't intend to name my basses, but they end up with nicknames naturally ovetr time anyway ...
'08 MIA Jazz: "Cynthia" ... I'm in a tribute band (Blue Rodeo ... means something in Canada!) and the bassline to a song called "Cynthia" was a bit of a stretch for me at the time - is seemingly a simple country song, but the bass line pretty much uses the entire fretboard and bounces along pretty quickly. I played that song over and over on this bass, for the first time I started feeling like a real bass player, and it just became the "bass I always use to play Cynthia" ... shortening that to just Cynthia was obvious.
'09 MIA P-Bass: "Cam" ... travelled to another city named Cambridge just to buy it. So new, the store hadn't even unpacked it from the shipping box yet.
'06 MIM 50's P Classic: "Brutus" ... anyone playing this bass would call it that even if they don't name their basses. Loud, proud, flattens anything in it's path and you're happy he's for you and not against you.

My own answer to naming basses seems so incredibly lame now! lol
I name a lot of inanimate objects in my life. My Orange Basslab is Clementine, Blue Dingwall is Stella Blue (after the G. Dead song), Fender J is Rufus, TBC 5er (and travel bass) is The Beach Bass, Emerald ABG is The Emerald (lame, I know), Steinberger Fretless is Space Bass, and I have a no-name Dingwall as well....or at least it's name hasn't manifested itself to me yet.
I don't always name everything, only when I think it's appropriate. My current main P bass with a red oak body (as seen in other threads) is "Oakey Dokey"... a favorite "Hannibal Lecterism".
I refer jokingly to my basses by name. My '51 P RI is "Doris," after a Kiwi noted that Doris is a slang term for a plain but pleasant girl; my '57 RI is "Sheila," after the Oz generic term for a female.
But ordinarily I refer to them by color ("the yellow one," "the sunburst one" etc). Doesn't seem fair to call them names when they can't talk back. This has the further advantage that I don't have to remember any particular characteristic, other than color -- and, each of my basses having a distinct personality (and a different color) it seems to suffice.

CAR Lakland 55-02 - Ol' Red or Log (weighs a ton)
Fender Jazz - Gloria or Ol' Brown Turd (depending on my mood. has nothing to do with sound or playability. It's a fantastic bass.)
Ice Blue SR5 - Blue
I'm very creative in my naming. My kids (as far as naming goes) are screwed when my wife starts popping 'em out.

I don't name inanimate objects but our daughters name their cars. A Dodge Stratus was named "Rico" from the character in Barry Manilow's "Copacabana". My favorite was when our oldest daughter named her Pontiac "Jean Claude Grand Am".
