Your Cheaper bass is getting more playing time

My warwick rarely gets any time these days my VM Jazz has been getting played constantly, I'm pretty much amounting it to 4 strings is enough and more comfortable.

Thinking of getting a MIM tossing a jz3 and badass on it and hoping for a happy medium.

Poor warwick Served me 10 good years, I can't sell it but I kinda want to.

Got a few dings and scratches but I'm not so bothered about that.

Couple years ago the circuitboard fried itself somehow. I got it 'replaced', but found out only a few months ago that I got ripped off: The guy charged me £150 (~$240?) for a new circuitboard but actually just resoldered the existing one. It's never sounded as good since then; the E in particular just sounds dead, very little sustain across the whole instrument compared to how it should be etc. And now for some reason, it won't hold a setup. I adjust the action, and then a couple of days later the strings are resting on the frets and it won't sound anything below the 9th fret. I had put it down to my student house being really cold, but my BTB and my Mexican Strat haven't been affected by it.

Well I only own one bass (Yammy RBX270) but I recently went to a music store and tried a Stingray. It was brilliant. Loved it in every way. Then as I was leaving I tried a Yamaha RBX374 (basically the upgrade of my bass) and loved it even more. It felt so comfortable, sounded that much more appealling to me. I'm gonna have to get a 374 or 375 and spend the rest of money I save on other gear :D

How much did you get for it? Enough to buy the pu's?

And you have regrets? Dude, if you can afford a Lakland, you can afford a spare Squier. That makes no sense.

Skylines are much cheaper than USA Laklands- used Darryl Jones models can sell for $750+, so it's not that big a difference from a new CV price.

Mine too is almost this...

However I'm playin a sub $200 used squier(deluxe) over a (not very expensive) MIM P.

The squier KILLS the MIM TONE wise...and maybe playability too.Its hard to tell, Because when suttin sounds good, I feel like I like it, or can play it better..If that makes sense. :hmm:

I have an obscenely expensive Modulus Graphite, and a quite expensive Mike Lull P/J.

What do I gig on? A Korean-made Warwick Rockbass Corvette with J/Js. It's just got a middle-of-the-road but rich and pleasing sound that fits perfectly in the music I play. I like the tight string spacing, it's light enough for 5 sets a night, and I don't care if it takes a few dings.

If the very highest few frets were just a hair more in tune, it would be _perfect_ for me!

This is exactly why i love midrange basses.
MIM fenders, Sterling Ray's, things of that nature.

they're really nice, and sound great, but they arent perfect.
and they're easy to replace if need be.

ive got 2 MIM's that i gig with constantly, and aside from some bad solders, have never given me a problem. But ive got a MIM for the studio that i keep nice.

i buy midrange all the way. 300-600 range. affordable and replaceable, but nice and great sounding.

Same here. Bought an old Warwick Thumb NT and then a Warwick Fortress for about half the price of the Thumb. Fortress is seeing a lot more use. At work I play my $20 pawnshop Kapa and I love it.

My cheapy that I'm favoring more cost me half what I paid for my "usual" bass. For years my main bass has been my Rickenbacker 4001CS, a limited edition, only 1000 were made, of which only 2 or 3 are lefties. Paid $999. for it in 1992.

due to the recession, I have sold all my high end basses (or traded up for them)
Modulus, Roscoe, Warrior, Tobias, Warwick.

What I am left with now is ONLY my old back-up 4, a G&L SB2 Tribute.

This bass sounds pretty damn good, has the less-common Maple fretboard, too.
Plays like butter. Sure, I will prolly get another more expensive bass down the road, but am so broke it's out of the question. Gigging still ? You betcha. Fresh strings on the G&L Tribute, and I'm happy.

My two basses get equal playing time, it depends on the song or style and I'll switch around. Also just out of principle, why have it at all if I'm not using it? Lately the Ibanez has been sitting around in Drop C though, it's pretty handy.
