Your current obsessions!

I want a 5 string and a 6 string. B oth need to be GOOD basses, but not necessarily expensive basses. One needs to be a lined fretless. I played an MTD Kingston 6 string fretless recently, so that would definitely qualify as a good bass to me. I much prefer 34" scales, and while I know the majority love the 35" B sting, I prefer 34".

Ther are SOOOO many choices out there, it is numbing to me. I have been going through phases of gas'ing for another Bongo, of getting a used Roscoe, of grabbing one of those 2TEK bridge'd Hamer 5 string jazz bases or an SB5000...sooo many choices. So I bought a Squier fretless out of the classifieds to calm myself down a bit, get a fretless in house, and quiet the gas until I know what I want brand and option wise. I want to not turn over instruments anymore - I want instruments I can retire with happily. Its just that so many basses look so good! :bassist:

My current obsession is finding either one of these basses pictured below. I love Mockingbirds!!! One is a BC Rich and one is a Fernandes. Both are owned by fellow TBer's. I have been looking for months and can not find either one:crying:

I am just the opposite, I have three basses with ebony boards and I can't stand the way it looks. I always prefer Maple.

Oh, I'll take those nasty old ebony-boarded things off your hands. :D

My latest unhealthy obsession is planning my trip to Florida to ask a man that hates my guts if I can marry his daughter.:(

I know, right? Isn't the girlfriend's dad always the worst? That's the musician's curse. I seem to always get the one with the super-strict ultra-conservative parents who want to murder me with no good reason at all. The fact that he hates you because you like snakes says it all... with those types, you barely even need a flaw for them to hate you. Snakes are cool... who cares about this stuff?

I currently have a crush on the daughter of a cop so we'll see what kind of a disaster this ends in. I once dated an orphan (30 year olds can still be considered "orphans" if their parents have passed, right? That's not just a term for Dickensian youths, right?) and it was the most freeing thing in the world. I should have married her.

I have a couple, at least one of which I'll be starting on later this year:

A spalted top;

Passive electronics (my 2008 P has really turned me back from the whole active thing);

Dunlop straplocks;

Wide string spacing;

Black hardware;

J-style pickups.

Kwesi, Over the past few weeks, I've been getting the feeling you're about to make some sort of change to your setup. Or are you just theoreticising?

Truth. Sorry I forgot to mention that earlier. That ring looks pretty awesome so you're a good man. Congrats. :)

Thanks!

And for the non-ring people in the crowd, this one was just about the same price as my Dingwall Rastaburst Voodoo/Zebra custom bass.

I figured I'd done ok with the ring choice when dudes I've shown it to have had as much a positive reaction as any girls...

holy **** that thing looks like it is worth more than my life
congratulations

Thanks! Mz. Skies happens to be a real cool girl. Platinum, high quality sapphire (a bit under 2ct.) and 64 diamonds. I'm pretty sure none of the other girls will have one. Its a French deco setting.

I figured I'd better spend at least as much and a bit more as I did on my Rastaburst...then it can never be a fight about what's more important...the girl or the bass. :D

I haven't had any real GAS since getting the Dingwall and my two fEARful cabs, so I'm not really worried about buying any future gear.

1. I'm obsessed with trying to get a dark double bass sound like Mingus' with the little gear i have, & without having to buy anything more.
2. I'm obsessed with single coil precision pickups & 51-style basses w only one single coil pup (conversely I like guitars with 3 humbuckers).
3. I really like road-worn butterscotch, yellow, & blond finishes but none of my stuff has that.
4. Slightly related--I'm obsessed with making up my own songs on bass then letting others add instruments & vocals later.
5. Stained wood--spalted maple, birdseye
