Your current obsessions!

The Warmoth build thats sitting in my closet. Its Dinky J with Deluxe 5 route and a killer Warmoth fretless ebony fingerboard and bunches of other quality parts- Budgeting...trying to hit a justifiable number in the business account to get it assembled, but when my drivers smash cabs into leeetle bits it gets difficult...

Also on the lower end, ATK 305 for that cheap pseudo SR sound and I can't justify it, but one o them Schecter Deluxe P5's I tried out at Daddy's Junky Music...best bass I have played in the last year off the rack for short money!!!

-Reading music better! (Specifically: becomming more comfortable sight-reading)

-Experimenting with different strings! (Specifically: different gagues, tape-wounds, and nickles)

-Getting rid of as many basses as possible... i have 5 now, and that's REALLY good for me, as i usually have at least 8 or so. (i think 5 is as low as i can go for now :( )

-Rather than buying a new bass, i'm REALLY into electronic swaps on existing basses. (Specifically: modern voiced vs older voiced)

I’ve been putting flatwounds on everything!

Been seriously obsessing on the tone of a passive Jazz with flatwounds. So much so that my CallowHill is now wearing flats because I wasn’t digging it at all with various nickel or steel rounds.

Just got my 60s RW Jazz last night and it sounds awesome with dead rounds, but flats are going on very soon.

Also, I’ve been playing Tabla more than bass. Started March this year, but got a teacher in April. I’m totally loving it and was spending more time on an ICM forum than TB.

Lastly, used to be all about the clear finish on ash. Now I'm all about the solid finishes.

I'm currently obsessed with swapping my USA Cirrus for a American P-Bass or a Spector. I have been trying to convince myself that the bass is right for me by using it on every gig lately and I love the sound, but it's like that girl that you date who is really pretty and is a lot of fun, but there is no chemistry. I just need to break-up with the bass.

Warwicks! Nothing new there as I've been obsessed with them for some time now, but it's been especially active as of late. Just got a Streamer Stage II a couple of weeks ago (my all-time dream bass!), and I've got a 5 string Flamin Blonde LTD Thumb on the way, which will be my 9th Warwick in a year and a half! I know the SS2 is a definite keeper, and I'm hoping the Flamin Blonde is the same, so then I can find a new obsession!

Although not as high, amps have recently become a new obsession as well. Can't afford a new one at the moment, but I've been doing a lot of research and trying to find the best setup for my desire so when I have the funds, I can get it.

My trusty Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman 5 in natural red has been my main bass for four years. Looking at an SSII as well though as they are pure hotness...

Just for you. Got my obsession today. Fretless streamer stage II to go with my Jazzman.

My obsession is not leaving well enough alone. I bought a Squier AFN P to modd, and cannot stop modding it. Modds so far:
1. 62 RI electronics
2. Set screw knobs
3. 3 ply parchment PG
4. Ashtray
5. Lindy Fralin pups
6. Fender Headstock decal sealed with a whole can of satin acrylic.
7. Aluminum tape shielding
8. Switchcraft jack

So Saturday, I took it to a Luther to have a custom made nut made of deer antler. And told him I may want him to dress and polish the frets. I’m up in the air about the frets because the neck is in real good shape, but just not perfect. I keep looking for deals on bridges and tuners although I consciously don’t think it will buy me anything because the bass stays in tune, and the bridge is stock. Why do this to an AFN you ask? I just love this bass!!!

Let's hear 'em! As this is the Basses sub-forum let's keep it bass related, cool?

Personally, I've really been into nice tops recently. I've always liked the look but it's gotten to the point where I want to sell all my basses that don't have them despite them being pretty sweet, lol.

Second up would have to be 34" scale. I never really cared before but now I've just got this idea in my head that I absolutely need uniformity of scale between my basses even though I've played played and loved a bunch of 35" scale basses out there. I feel just a tad dumb for it but I don't think I've missed out of anything just yet ;).

Edit: I created the thread with the idea being around bass features, not basses themselves. So what aspects about particular basses are you really digging right now? In other words, let's avoid "I want x bass!" I think we've all seen enough of that, lol!

Obsession for nice tops? Here's my Jerzy Drozd Obsession Excellency with a pretty nice top.
