Ebony fretboards. Rosewood just doesn't seem to meet the mark right now.
I'm always obsessing about setup and since it's spring, I'm tinkering with settings almost daily and cursing the combination of 7,25 fretboard radius (which I'm obsessive about in jazz basses) and non radiused pickup poles.
But that's pretty much going on all the time. The biggest thing for me is definately the USA cirrus 6 I got a couple of months ago. I've wanted a good sixer to replace my old yamaha for a long time, but I still saw sixers as bit of novelty items when used by me. I consider myself a 4 string, 34" scale, vintage jazz bass sort of guy but every week this modern thing with plenty of long strings gets a bigger grip of me. It's just so damn easy to get a good tone out of and it just loves DI so recording with it is a really fuzz free experience. And now my beloved jazzes seem to just be something I adjust instead of play.
I prefer ebony to rosewood, also. But... a really deep, dark rosewood is almost as good and ebony seems to only be available on more expensive instruments so I go with what I have.
Some basses seem like they NEED to have an ebony fretboard. I'm a bit disappointed that Epiphone uses ebony boards very rarely to never.

That is a gorgeous, awesome bass that I would love to own but wouldn't it look about a thousand times sharper with an ebony board? It's hard to deny.
