Your Dream P Bass?

How do you like that aluminum neck?
I’m a huge fan of Travis Bean’s designs and love the EGC stuff by Kevin Burkett.
I emailed them awhile back to get a quote for a P/J neck and it wasn’t a terrible price but life happens and I ended up not being able to buy one.
I’ve not tried any basses with aluminum necks other than an old Kramer but at the time I was still pretty new to playing although my experience with aluminum guitars has been fantastic.

I’m curious what you think about yours. Feel free to either message me or respond to this.

i absolutely LOVE mine! it is a Robot Graves neck and it is amazing. i have had it for a couple of years now and i love it more every day. no complaints whatsoever. it really is the perfect neck. check out Robot Graves site if you are wanting to try it. i do not have any experience with EGC, so i can't speak about those but i do know that Dunable Guitars use Robot Graves necks on some of their basses. they really are incredible. i also have a '80 Kramer Vanguard flying V with the metal neck. although it is very cool vintage USA, it is no where near the quality of my Robot Graves neck. Sperzel locking tuners. NEVER goes out of tune. sustains forever. harmonics ring like a church bell. absolutely love it!

My dream P Bass is the one that got away. I picked up this 1982 Fullerton made American Vintage '57 Precision in the late 1990s for $200. I traded it several years back for a Gibson ES-175. I really miss that bass!

I love the Sadowsky P basses. I had a Sadowsky Original P that I’m sorry I let go. Even more sorry that today it would cost double what I paid for it back around 2010-2011.
Currently have a great 24 fret P/J that I really dig.

I currently own two Sadowsky basses. Both are NYC model 5 string basses. I would love to have a 4 string.

Some folks are playing fast and loose with the definition "P bass". Doesn't matter, I'm enjoying looking at them!

If I could justify the expense, I'd go for an Oliver Riedel signature Sandberg California VM4.

Someone else built it (in 2005), but to my specs. I have zero interest in any other P-bass. Weighs in at 8.8 lbs.

Well, the left handed '78, 3TB lacquer refinished, "A-spec" necked Fender P-Bass that I've owned since 1988 would definitely make me happy- especially if it weighed about 2 lbs. less that it's current 11.1 lbs. But, as for my "main player"? I can't think of any P-Bass ever made that would take that spot from my '73 Rick 4001... Still, the P-Bass I have is a very nice bass. Minus a couple of pounds? A very, very nice bass, indeed...

I like my candy apple red 1971 Precision. Its a real nice bass. The neck is my avatar.

Duck Dunn already built it - P-bass with a bound/blocked Jazz neck. Only thing I'd change: reverse the pickup.

First off: There is no way in hell that a P Bass could be my "main player". Been there, done that, it just does not work for my concept of what a bass should sound like.

But, since I do recognize that an archetypal P Bass is a good iconic sound to have in one's arsenal, if I am going to get anything it would be either

- Bobby Roman's 1964 Fender Precision Bass. I played it once, back around 1982, and I was totally blown away by the sound and feel. It was like "there it is, that's the sound of a million hit records!" No other P Bass has even come close to eliciting that response from me. I wonder if Roman still has it? I think he'd already retired from performing by the time I played it in '82.

Here's mine, built to my specs a few years ago by our friend @Syco_bass. Beautiful one piece ash body with Fralin pickups and Hipshot bridge. Birdseye maple neck (it's beautiful to look at but even nicer to play) with blocked and bound Rosewood fingerboard. Bone nut and lightweight Hipshot tuners. Weighs under 9 pounds.
