Your Dream P Bass?

I've been on a long quest to find 'the one,' and have owned dozens of P basses over the years. Right now I'm pretty smitten with this one, a Fender AVRI '62 P bass in vintage white (looks much less yellow in person than in the photos). It's a bit basic in appearance but it checks many boxes for me: vintage styling, nitro finish, dark rosewood fretboard, made in USA, visible fretboard dots, light weight. There are likely many that fit into these buckets, but I'm becoming more comfortable with the idea of having a meat and potatoes, workhorse P bass as my #1.

Thinking more about it, there really isn't anything on my P that I would swap out, another color other than sunburst, yes, but playability and tone wise, perfect to me.

2006 Fender American Standard Precision with LaBella Deep Talkin' Flats. Only changes I made to this bass is the addition of Dunlop Strap Locks and change the off-white pickguard for the loveliness that is Tort.

Already got mine!

First, my CAR Olinto, signed by the man, Mas Hino!

Second, my Swiss Army knife Fender Am Pro. Stock P pickup and tone circuit with treble side pickup moved “up”. Then Nordstrand MM pickup (in the sweet spot, of course) and preamp on a totally separate circuit with series/parallel/single switch and a switch to go between the P and MM circuits. Dmara Guitars in Cinci killed it on this one! (In case anyone’s wondering, this one was vinyl wrapped by Paradise Graphix, also in Cinci!).

I love these things. Beautiful tones and versatile. Shout out to the best leather strap maker in the market, ENJ Straps!

My crappy Squier Affinity. Love the look between the butterscotch finish and the fake block inlays; love the tone with the SD QP pickup. 10/10, no notes.

I have it, more or less. It's black with a painted headstock and an ebony fretboard, with Aguilar pup replacement. I put one of those kickass bridges on it as well for widening the string spacing a bit, more precise intonation, and ease of string change. (though my P wears flats for an eternity until they won't hold tune)

I like it aesthetically, but it just kind of sounds like a P. Ones as good as another for me.

Yeah, I have a sterling ray4 that has really surprised me. I play it more toward the neck and get a good sound. I play my fender p on top of the pickup and I get a little better sound.

I have a funny love/hate relationship with Rays. I love the sound of them, when other people play them.

When I play them, I don't like how I sound playing them

I gave one I had to my son. Every once in a while, he'll leave it here and. I'll play it for a while thinking I'll bond with it, nope.

Lol thank you! It deffenitly fits that man of bronze wheel house. Officially called "rosegold copper". Shot myself. The body is made of Sapele, grain filled, primed in white, color on top, about 15 coats of nitro and finished with a few coats of Mohawk instrument lacquer which is super thin. So thin that I've got some pretty gnarly checking after a year. Ohio weather will do that though, go bucks!

I wouldn't really care about looks, nor colour, nor origin. It would need to feel nice, play nice, sound nice, and be well made. I'd try as many as possible before making a decision.
