I build myself a new P bass from time to time as parts become available but if I were to think about a dream P bass it would be one by Paul Slagle of Pittman Guitars. Sadly Paul passed away a few years ago and I can't imagine anyone parting with one of his fine instruments.

For me it's nothing too fancy. It would be a passive, ~7.5.lb, Charvel San Dimas PJ IV in Silver Sparkle with ultralight tuners.

I really love my 90s MIJ Precision Lyte. I do like the look of the Lyte Deluxe though, so maybe that. I could never get comfortable on the slab bodies of regular Ps, so this was a great option for me.

Recently picked up this bad boy in the TB classifieds. Custom Shop Postmodern Precision. Quartersawn compound (9.5 to 16) radius jazz neck, RSD string thru bridge, modern lightweight Fender tuners, contour neck heel, and hand wound vintage pickup. 8.25 pounds. An awesome take on the original, by the original.

Bluesman Vintage Deville in aged Pelham blue with a black anodized pickguard with rosewood board and pearl blocks. These things easily compete with Fender CS at a lower price point. B Neck with matching headstock.

Another Squier Matt Freeman to match the one I already own. Modded w/ a Aguilar 4P-60 pickup …and a gold anodized pickguard just because.

Found it in 1988. '76 sunburst. A few mods since then - Hipshot tuners, Hipshot bridge, EMG GZR-P pickup (the tone control is actually useful!), D'Addario nylon tape wounds. Swapped the black guard for tort. It has the "A" neck option.

I often go back to, and think about, Fender’s discontinued Midnight Hour P bass. A limited run built to pay tribute to the production team of Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge (who scored the phenomenal Luke Cage series).
