Your Dream Sound (effect wise)

This is not somewhere to show of your collection of pedals, we have plenty of that!

Here you can talk about what your dream sound would be and how to obtain it, if you allready have your dream sound; what effects do you use and why?

This is supposed to be learning forum right, so here i figures we could all help giving others tips how to obtain that "perfect sound" we all are dreaming of.

Be nice!

To be honest im still looking for that sound so i want be preaching about it either. I just use my line6 to experiment before i get my hands on the real deal later.

Have fun guys!

Edit: sound clips would be highly appreciated!

I've always wanted to get the synth sound from The Gap Band's "Early In The Morning". Haven't quite gotten it yet with either the Octavius Squeezer or any fuzz/filter/octave combo.

Eugene Goreshter - Autolux

Robbie Shakespear - every ace roots & dub album through the 70's

Joe Preston - Thrones

Debbie Googe - My Bloody Valentine

the most throbbing, yet punchy, synthy, super hi gain fuzz sound imaginable with a gate. sadly the woolly mammoth did not provide [ stingray ].

My favorite bass / effects tone is Justin Chancellor :hyper: .
Having personally been a finger style player with minimal effects for almost 20 years Justin's pick/effects style was always just so damned appealing to me .

Second would have to be Glen Diani from One Minute Silence ...a finger style madman with superb tone on everything they ever recorded .

I like the idea of the direct sound just a little bit more than hearing it distorted or anything, but I like a little bit of "tang" in the tone than that, which might be a compressor. Really I like having flexibility in case there is a 70s tune or something (the occasional filter effect/synth or fuzz or flange), but that's only sparingly.

What I'd like to find is a solo setting that is a little boosted and differentiated from the regular tone enough to shine.

Here's a few I really like (no consistency whatsoever):

Chris Wolstenholme - Starlight
Nick O'Malley - Reckless Serenade
JPJ on a lot of things, but in particular Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song and The Lemon Song.
Roger Waters - Money.
Geddy Lee on 2112.

On the last two I don't know if there are any effects - if there aren't I'm sorry for going off on a tangent - but I just love the sound on them!

took me a while... but I think I have most of the sounds i really love ... i never looked for a dream sound, more like .. looked for what i heard in my head :)

I made a few samples for you guys, hope you like it

first up is my clean sound with some finger style and slap, and by clean, i mean Aguilar TLC compressor and Tech 21 Bass Driver DI , both of them are always ON

next up , the Microtubes B3K ... sweet overdrive
then the B3K with some MXR bass octave delux M288 in parallel (i always use it in parallel so that the octaver will always be clean)

next... 3Leaf Audio , You're Doom ... what a great fuzz sound !!!

next, with that fuzz still ON, here's 3 Leaf audio Wonderlove (heheheh as i write i realize i did record the wonerlove by itself , but you all know how an envelope filter sounds like :) )

now my attempt to get a MOOG like sound... the 3Leaf Audio You're Doom with Wonderlove and the MXR octaver in parallel and playing muted strings ... love it !!!

here come the Source Audio Orbital Modulator
1st preset is the Vibe phaser
2nd is the RES 1

next up, you're doom with the vibe phase

last but not least ... you're doom with RES 1 of the
orbital Modulaor followed by the same thing with some MXR octaver

by the way ... it's a MusicMan Stingray :bassist:

enjoy
