Your Favorite Bass Solo Piece?

So what is your favorite bass solo piece?

This could a track where the bass literally is the only instrument, or where it by far is in the front ground and leading, and all the instruments has a more supporting, accompanying,
role.

Not talking about bass solos, but actual songs/tunes/pieces.

I would say it very much does, yes.

It doesn't have to be an original song, or a song that originally was a solo bass piece.

As great as Japan ended up being, even with the contributions/songs from the other members, Karn made the material bass-centric, and it wouldn’t have been as impactful without him. It’s the same with any of his various later collaborations…Peter Murphy, Gary Numan, Bill Nelson, Midge Ure, Kate Bush, Polytown, etc, his playing made the track, and the bass part solo’d could stand on its own.

That's kind of sad, honestly, coming from, I assume, as bass player.

I'm not sure I have a favorite bass solo piece, because for me the job of the bass is inherently supporting the song.

BUT

"I Want You Back" by Jackson 5 essentially has lead bass and that works great.

Years ago played JS Bach Suite V Prelude on a fretless Ripper with my wife on piano, who is very steeped in classical music and has been an accompianist, mostly keyboard, for decades. I'm basically a rocker who can read. Very nice piece. Think it's really for cello.
Played it to a Masonic Temple Club audience and it was a lot of fun and very well received. I'm not a Mason, was just a guest. I don't know if The Masons even still exist.
This was in '96 and had no audio or video. Wish I had. Pretty challenging piece which I memorized. Wifey was very impressed, so that counts for a lot! g00d times

As far as fave bass solo prolly Tom Kriss on The James Gang cover of Yardbirds "Lost Woman". Or anything Stanley or Jaco for modern jazz/rock.
