Phish, New Year's Eve 1999 > 2000. Weekend event held for 80,000 fans on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation in the Florida Everglades. They did Auld Lang Syne at midnight, then proceeded to play, without a setbreak, until the sun came up. It was a religious experience for me.

Gogol Bordello. The music isn't great... but the dance floor turns into a giant, sweaty, shirtless orgy once his band starts playing.

It is a very cool experience.

Time to resurrect this thread.

On Friday I saw Wilco in Berkeley. They put on a fantastic show.

John Stirratt has such a cool vintage tone, though I didn't see his Darkstarred Lakland. Looked like he played a P most of the night.

Nels Cline was a live wire both musically and in terms of his onstage presence.

Jeff Tweedy was as on his game as I've seen him and his occasional banter with the crowd was really funny.

Their new album destroys the ridiculous "American Radiohead" label they'd been tagged with, but both bands are great live. Wilco's show was exactly what a road tested rock band's show should be.

A very brief list of highlights of the many shows I've seen over the last 25 years:

Police 1982 - Front row center at a stadium show (Ghost in the Machine tour).

Cramps 1996 - Lux Interior climbs up onto the balcony and hangs off while singing. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Circle Jerks 1986(?) - The CIRCLE JERKS. What else need I say?

Butthole Surfers 1987 - Speedway Cafe (of "SLC Punks" fame). Gibby jumps into the crowd, hits some guy a few times, and jumps back up on stage and picks the song up mid-verse. Impressive.

The Who 1989 - The "25th Anniversary" tour stop in Boulder, CO. Drank a lot of Jager, but I had a great time nonetheless.

Urge Overkill 1993 or 1994 - At the Roxy in Hollywood. Great show. Lots of famous folks there. Some poor soul made the mistake of trying to cut through the crowd carrying an entire box of Walt Mink shirts. Was mobbed right in front of me. Like sharks on chum. Guy lost everything.

Every Mike Watt show I've been to (7 of them). Mike's the greatest. I always buy a shirt and have him sign a poster.


WORST SHOW EVER - Killing Joke 1995. 45 minutes and then out. No encores. Bastiges.

Warrior Soul - Soundgarden - Danzig

@ The Unicorn Ballroom

Great lineup. Great show. Soundgarden just blew me away. They were touring for Louder Than Love and Danzig was touring for their debut album. WOW. Got backstage at this show even.
