Your favorite examples of octave-down...?

So, I've just got a Mooer Tender Octaver, mostly for the octave-up (seems to work well - still need to experiment with it), but I'm realizing that I don't really "get" the octave down. It's a cool sound, but how do you use it in reality?

Can you enlighten me by linking some of your favorite tracks using this effect?

Funnily enough...a fretless MM with an OC-2...anyone seeing a pattern here?

OC-2s can sound amazing, or track so poorly that they're not worth it. The quality range on them is all over the map, and you have to be okay with a Boss buffer when the pedal isn't engaged. If you can find one that tracks well and are okay with the buffer, you've got an absolute tone monster on your hands.

Id honestly like to hear some examples of a cleaner octave (not an OC-2) used in modern rock or metal. Anyone? With octave down pedals being such a popular effect I figured I'd see a lot more examples here. I never found a ton of use for them personally, but am curious to hear how others apply cleaner octave pedals like the mxr or EBS in more modern music

Honestly I hear a lot more octave use in funk, electronica etc than hard rock and metal.

For instance Derrick Hodge uses an Aguilar Octamizer a fair amount with Robert Glasper.

My absolutely favorite use of octave effects are from John Davis of Nerve:



I believe he used OC-2 -> CoPilot FX Orbit (or similar gated fuzz)-> Line 6 DL4 during these performances. I could be wrong, but I love his posts on talkbass and he's talked about using modulated delays/bitcrushers/choruses to "unhinge" or detune the signal to make it more synth-like.

Timmy C from Rage used one quite a bit, but I think it was still an OC-2 or OC-3. Listen to the chorus on I'm Housin' and you'll hear it very well.

Yeah, but funk bleeds into metal real quick (see: Maggot Brain). It's all rock... Anyway, not exactly what you're looking for, but I got a whammy for octave down stuff cause of Bootsy's work on the first (I think) Praxis album (Mutatus Mutandus). You can do something similar by turning your octave on and off quickly.
