USA Lakland DJ, chi sonics, ebony fretboard. I've owned a few different brands, and I have liked both of the laklands. The other fretless Lakie was a skyline JO, EMG JV pups. Sounded like a monster with d'addario halfs!

My favorite fretless is my #19 Valenti. None more black.

I was going to say my fretless, but if we're allowed to include basses we've never played (or seen in person), then your Valenti might be my favorite fretless too. I would be tempted to put DR Neons on it if I owned it. Probably this set for maximum tackiness: Invalid Link Removed

Very interesting responses.

I've owned and sold, three Buzz basses, an F Bass AC-6, a Pedulla Thunderbuzz 6, and three Zons and a Rob Allen Deep 5.

My best friend has a Wal Mach II that sounds great.

I've given up on playing 6 string.

I currently have a Zon and a Status.

My friend is going to sell his Wal 5 string and I have a chance to buy it.

In my fantasies I'd have the following fretlesses to cover all basses:

Status Kingbass (have), Hyperbass, Wal, F-Bass AC-4, Deep 5 and a Buzz.

I don't own anything on the list or in the poll! I've never even played most of them! My favorite fretless bass is my G&L L2500. That bass just kills. Also great (but quite different) is my 6 string Alembic Epic fretless. And also great (and again totally different) is my Carvin AC50 semihollow body ABG.

But basses I probably play the most are my SX basses either modded into fretless with ebony boards (Ursa 5 and SX 6er) or the factory SX 5er with the rosewood board and alder body. I use them more because I don't have to worry about them being valuable. And I love the Fender clone thing they do as well.

Abe Rivera Custom 5 string fretless (built in 1987-88).
Abefretless_zpsf90358b4.jpg

Yes, this was built by the same Abe Rivera that built the bass Jaco used in his instructional video (that belonged to Jerry Jemott).

.......just noticed the thread.

Abe built three of the scroll tops like Jerry Jemmott's. The first was Jerry's, my fretless was second in 1983 and there was a third I don't know much about.
A fairly recent setup by Dave Segal and it is just ridiculous.

It's one of two Abe basses I have.

I have 3 fretless basses, very hard to pick a favorite.

Elrick Platinum Classic 4 (LaBella Tapewounds)

Rick Turner Ren 4 (Status-Graphite Tapewounds)

Rick Turner Ren 5 (TI Nickel Jazz Flats)

I think the magic was finding the right string combo that provided the play and tone I had in my head for each. I have to thank this community for that as I spent a lot of time researching and reading prior to trying different strings on each.

...Oh, and I have G.A.S. bigtime for a Pedulla Buzz!
