I like Bart, but I prefer them with a preamp.

I do too, a preamp really brings them to life. True with lots of passive pickups though.

I also do prefer Fender basses. When I need firewood!!! That basswood burns nicely!

Yeah that's why I didn't vote for them. Rio Grande's kill in a passive bass. Barts sound OK passive, but they are a little weak and kind of anemic sounding passive.

Lace Alumitones. Great tone, good output. I'm planning on using them again in another future build.
I'd also like to try a set of Curtis Novak.

But there are so many good pickups with different sounds it'd really be impossible to find one and only one.
Right now in various builds I am using Hagstrom from a HB4, Guild in a Squier Telecaster rebuild, SDG in a short scale Thunderbird, the "P" from a Squier Jag SS into a cheapo that is a time waster. Also have two or three more sets in the music closet I've no project for at this time.

Regenerate Guitar Works. Wound by Rod (or his wife) in house. Superb clarity and warmth and VERY little noise. Much quieter than the SDs and Nordstrands I also have.

Are you comparing the noise to similar pups (P bass, Jazz, MM, etc..)? The Nordstrands I've had have been extremely quiet.

I have both Fender's Custom Shop pickups in my Precision and in my Jazz Bass. Sick pickups. So tone. Very sound. Much bass. Such good. Wow.

Other: Haussel. I have the bassbars made for Adamovic and are really good pick-ups. Very transparent, dead quiet and musical. They also make pickups for jazz bass and guitars. Very recomended.
