I would just add a Demeter preamp to have it perfect to my liking :

LG3005 : I like this small body and its very beutifully sculpted front.

The only drawback is those slented pickups which make it far more difficult if you want to swap the standard Bart. for other pickups

ash body/exhib. quilted maple top
Birdseye maple fretboard (incredibly unstable but so beautiful)
and mate finish just not to incase those beautiful woods into a fat layer of plastic !

If I should order a new freted Roscoe today, it would have in priority :
ash body and Demeter preamp, I would probably go for a crazy looking spalted purpleheart FB and walnut or bubinga top
For pickups, I'd like to give it a "European touch" with some Delano or Rough Crystal pickups

If I were to sum up the Demeter preamps, I'd say that they are vey transparent preamps with very usable eq points. They particularly work well with Roscoe's IMO because the standard Bart pickups tend to have a really thick/wooly tone (especially with the standard Bart 3-band preamp), and the Demeter really seems to clean things up.

All the different wood and pre combinations have their strong points but the Spanish Cedar with any top (thus far) and the Demeter pre brings an overwhelming smile to my face while I'm playing...................:)

Of the 9 Roscoe's I've owned, the latest SKB 3005 clearly wins the best overall catagory.......

  • Spanish cedar body
  • Spalted maple top
  • African tulipwood fingerboard
  • Demeter pre
  • Bart p/u's

Man I love that black one. I wish I could find some better pics of it somewhere. I also really liked the one that a TBer recently got with a different type of black finish. Anyone remember what that's called? I am really looking forward to seeing the trans black ash Roscoe a certain Tber is having built.

Play them both before you buy. They are very different, but I wouldn't be so fast to dismiss a Modulus! The only way to know which is right for you is to somehow get your hands on both. Rest assured though, either way you will get a great bass. I want to have both! If my financial blundering hadn't gotten in the way I would already.

I love mine, an LG3005 fretless:

For a six, though, I'd choose the SKB body style. I find the LG has a bit of neck dive even in a 5 string, so I'd rather have the body weight for a 6 ...

I have the 18 volt bartolini 3 band eq, and just love it. This has been my primary gigging axe for 5 years now, and has never let me down.
