I think there's been some pretty cool TV theme songs over the years. There's usually a longer or full version that's worth checking out.

Here's one of mine:

Hawaii 5-O then The Munsters and then King of The Hill followed by the Simpsons. I have had an Instrumental band over the years and I have either played these as a tune or incorporated these as part of a bass solo. People love hearing it live cause they have all heard these themes they don't expect to hear it at a gig

This is my all time favorite TV show opening. I swear, you start singing this at any geek culture convention, EVERYone in the room will start singing along, regardless of age, creed, etc. This is a song that transcends all boundaries and unites, like, everyone.

I always sing the Lisa Douglas part when I'm in NYC.

In the 70's my band used to play a shortened instrumental only version of this song before going on break.

I am going to mention Rockford Files again - only to press for you to listen to the entire piece! It is quite well done.

Interesting that there is NOTHING from the last couple of decades mentioned! I think that the quality of the shows has declined as well.

What bass player ever heard the theme from BARNEY MILLER and think, 'damn, that's FINE' ?

Another one already mentioned was the theme from the 60's HAWAII 5-0. The story I've read more than once seemed to mention The Ventures were in on it, and Hal Blaine read and played the track we hear on the first take. Geez . . . .

At least I thought of one not brought up: The great Al Jarreau with the theme from MOONLIGHTING:



Jarreau, a singer's singer, a master. I love this track as it sounds so very 80's LA: That very smooth mix, DX7 textures, urban-funk bass with more upfront drums, just the overall sheen, I loved that sound. What a track!

Probably my all-time favorite show is a British show from the early 2000s called Hustle. Clever story lines and a cool theme song...which I use for the ringtone for my phone.

Ooh...tough to pick a single favorite, but I love this particular theme from "The Bob Newhart Show." It's different than the first theme for the show. I luv me sum horns, and the horns are magnificent in this theme!
