Your favourite delay

Carbon copy is a great pedal!! maybe it's the lack of versitality and taptempo that has kept people from mentioning it? (Just guessing here...)

Sounds like it. Its a pretty simple yet effective design, that's for sure. I use mine as a subtle but atmospheric effect - almost ambient. Works well and I don't really need tap tempo to get the results I'm after so I'm happy. I can totally see why other players would want/need tap tempo on their delays, though.

Yeah, i love it's sound to, but i really find taptempo super handy... if it would have tap, or an input for one, i would get one!

Diamond Quantum Leap. Analog with tap and pitch ramp delay, chorus, flanger, and a comb filter. Its actually way too complicated for me, but I primarily use it for the delay. I've thought about getting rid of it since I don't utilize 80% of its capability, but I love it too much.

I can't wait to get my Way Huge Supa Puss! Tons of tonal options with modulation, drive and tone controls, tap tempo despite being an analog delay, different rhythmic subdivisions, trails and the triply chase mode for extra weirdness which I love!
Anybody try it out before?
I had one and liked it a lot! Everything I hoped the EHX Memory Boy Deluxe would be- but sounds better to me and WAY less noisy. Only things I missed in comparison were the FX Loop and the ability to control Feedback with an expression pedal.

I had the reverse experience. The Supa Puss I played was noisy, the gain knob was unusable, and the repeats sounded terrible. Yesterday I bought the Deluxe Memory Boy. There's no noise, the repeats are brighter than my old Jacques Prisoner (which had replaced an old DMM for 5 years), and it sounds great. It's not going to supplant my Catalinbread Echorec, but it'll be nice to use them for different sounds. I think this is simply one of those "YMMV" moments.

Yeah that's interesting! I found the Gain and Tone controls both useable over the whole range. I don't really like bright analog delay though I didn't hear very much noticeable clock noise even with the Tone control all the way up, whereas my DMB was super hissy at even moderate delay times and more "clicky" than bright to my ears (that kind of clackiness on the repeats that I hate on a delay). The repeats sounded like a broken robot with extended delay on the DMB as well, whereas the Supa Puss didn't get nearly as unusably lo-fi at similar stretched delay times for me. I found both pedals much more aggressive/ up-front sounding than the Memory Man, which is still the best IMO for ethereal delays.
Curious if one of us had a badly calibrated pedal? Also- do you play active basses or use the delay on a daisy chain? (my DMB hated to be daisy-chained, but didn't try the Supa Puss that way)

I think the Way Huge issue I came across was an issue with the first version of the Supa Puss. I haven't played a new revision, which was just released.

EHX pedals are traditionally noisy. I found one in an independent store in Manhattan, and I'm sure that had something to do with "getting a good one". I have been using it in a daisy chain, powered by a One-Spot. no issues so far.

It should also be noted that I'm primarily a guitarist, have no active instruments, and never use delay on bass.

1. Strymon El Capistan
2. Vox Delaylab (but has a lot of options and a little bulky. A very nice delay pedal that should get more love)
3. EHX Deluxe Memory Man
4. Line 6 Echo Park

Too many top quality delays out there. But these would be in my top picks.

It's a great pedal but you have to be in love with more of the echo/analog worlds of delay pedals. Even if you set everything flat, it will not be a pristine digital delay type. Which is just fine for me.

I also would highly recommend the Favorite switch. Turns the pedal into two.

Also, seriously (and not because I have one pending for sale) one of my favorite delays for bass has been the analog and tape settings of the Delaylab. But the Strymon El Capistan does what it was designed for very well... Which is why it replaced my Delaylab.

I'm about to pull the trigger on buying an El Cap. worth the money?

Surprised there's not more love for the Carbon Copy. Picked one up last week and its already earned a permanent spot on my board. Smooth, warm analog delay with a nifty adjustable modulation switch. It even oscillates great and is pretty simple to control.

The only negative thing I can think of at this point is that the pedal can drive into self-oscillation a bit too easily depending on how you have your settings. All comes down to finding a combo that works but if you're not careful, it can get a bit wild.

Agreed. Subtle settings and slap back you can't go wrong though. Depends on your needs, I love how dark the analog sounds...it's subjective as to what people prefer

Top for me is the Wampler Faux Analog Echo--easy to use, well made, and I really like the way it sounds. Second would be the MXR Carbon Copy--fantastic analog delay, just a touch too dark sounding for me. Agree that it depends on the sound you want. Many other great ones out there, but most I'd seriously consider are too large for my board or cost more than I want to spend.
