Giving some love to Aston 'Family Man' Barrett of Bob Marley fame here…
Yeah. And that Fams, Geddy, and Jaco got such remarkably different tones out of J's is why I'll always have one in the stable.
Marcus Miller's tone is so full and bass-y. Jaco's is perfectly quacky and is what I have dialed in all day every day (mostly because I'm not a slapper)
Only one real choice.
Joe Osborn. The greatest bassist of all time with the most identifiable tone.

Too many to choose just one.
So many different players who have (or had) their own unique style have been able to find their own unique voice and coax it from a Jazz or J-type bass.
Is Marcus tone better than Geddy's? Is Geddy's better than Timothy B. Schmidt?
I say no to all comparisons. They are all great sounds that are perfectly suited to the music those individuals have created. All equally good, but very different from one another.
Just shows how versatile the Jazz Bass is, and the bass guitar as a musical voice in general is.

Klaus Flouride - Dead Kennedys, or Adam "Dev" Devonshire - IDLES. Very opposite Jazz bass tones, but distinct enough. Also, Noel Redding of Jimi Hendrix Experience.
