Your Favourite Jazz Bass Tone/Player?

i would say Ian Hill of Judas Priest but his early days of jazz bass were deep and flubby, now that i think of it. Tim Commerford from RATM, has a nice tone but i think he used a stingray, but that is the tone i lust after.

John Paul Jones and Tommy Shannon immediately came to mind.

Geddy Lee did, too, and I’m a HUGE Rush fan and a Geddy fan in particular. His tone fits the band, but I’m not quite a big a fan of his tone as I am a fan of him.

So many to choose from. Flabba Holt comes to mind for reggae. Not a Fender, but Will Lee on his Sadowsky Jazzes sounds perfect to me.

Yeah, Flabba playing the Stagalag is the business.

Not sure that ever would have popped into my head, but you're absolutely right.

Gonna go listen to Foghat Live now. It's been a while but I still listen to it once in a while. Great blues rock as far as I'm concerned.

Geddy Lee for overdriven sounds, Jaco for clean sounds. Both are fantastic players, although in Geddy's case I thought he did his best playing and got his best tone with a Wal (although his Wal tone is not a typical Wal sound, IMO).

Every once in a while you see a thread that looks like more of the same (yawn) J vs. P or similar. Honestly this thread has impressed the hell out of me. So may great sounds coming from so many talented players. Kudos to all of you who have contributed. I am enjoying this thread so much.
