My first bass was a crazy Russian thing that my dad brought back from Moscow.
It had 3 tone BUTTONS, a skinny little chicken-neck fretboard & action you could park a bus under.
Loved it though.
Before I got an amp, I used to lean the butt of it against the wooden drawers beside my bed to amplify the sound.
Think the first bassline was something by Nirvana but spent most of my time trying to figure out Anesthesia!

The first real complete song I learned was "I'm Eighteen" by
Alice Cooper from the "Love It to Death" album. I felt so good
being able to pull that song off and amaze my friends lol.
It was a start and I know it helped to fuel the desire to
keep on learning.

My first bass was a Peavey Milestone 3, great build quality *cough* i still have the remaining tuner. Seriously.
First line i learned: Another One Bites the Dust. And i effing hate Queen.

A cheap Fender knock off. Bass and amp cost about 85 bucks. That bass sounded good though.

My first bass that was actually mine and not a borrowed instrument, was my brand new 1962 Fender P-Bass. I bought it new late Summer, 1962.As for my first bass line, I simply do not remember. I thought my first attempts at bass were during the week long booking that we had at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion in June 1962 when I was actually the formal bass player for the band. However, I was reminded by my old band mates that I was actually playing bass lines long before then on my Strat. Even though I was the lead guitarist in our high school rock band, on some songs I was actually playing bass lines to fill it out. For most of our Senior year we played without a bassist, picking one up at the end of year. Our piano player had been filling in for the missing bass on most songs, and I did for the remainder.
Our new bassist then quit almost as fast as he had joined and left us without when we went to the beach to play. So I ended up playing bass on most songs, and a little lead guitar on those that really needed it, with the piano doing the bass duties.
But, I cannot even attempt to remember the first song. And there's been so many along the way that things have gotten a little muddy anyway.
Bass was a 78 Fender Musicmaster my Dad bought me at a garage sale for $75 - song was Running with the Devil by Van Halen or Breakin the Law by JP.

First one I actually owned (bought I should say)was a Carvin LB75. I still swear it was one of the best I've ever laid my fingers on. Traded it in, unfortunately, but needed some other equipment....
When I first started playing I borrowed a bass that a friend had and didn't even know how to play, it was a piece of crap Warlock, then when he wanted it back another friend donated a piece of crap Fender copy, then I finally bought myself the Carvin.
First bassline? I don't know if I'd call it a bass line, but I started playing bass (switched from guitar) because some friends wanted to start a hardcore band but had no bassist. We were playing covers of Sheer Terror, Life of Agony, Biohazard, etc... so I'm sure it was a song by one of those bands.
