What was your first bass or the first bass line you learned?

My first bass was a Canora P-copy in Sunburst. I still have it and play it.

First bass line I learned was the intro to "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica.

I was a month into learning rythm/lead guitar when I asked a friend to teach that song to me. He did. I argued he taught me the wrong part. He asked "which part then?", I told him the part I wanted to play and he laughed at me, took the pick off me and handed me a bass saying "you'll want one of these then" and taught me the part on bass.

First and only song I learned by ear start to finish, just to prove I could, was Run To The Hills by Iron Maiden. I prefer to rely on tabs and my ear to fix any problems. . .

First song: American Idiot, because Smoke on the Water's bassline was a repeating G and that's not why I got into bass, also now why I continue to play.

1st bass was a white Univox Mosrite copy. 1st bass line was Aerosmith's Last Child. At the time I thought BOTH were Awesome. Both still have special places in my heart. The bass ended getting stolen, and I used all of my Kiss & Aerosmith albums for target practice...PULL!!!

Squier Precision - Spend a lot of TLC on her with a Badass II bridge, new electronics and a Seymour Duncan Hot pup. Hardly ever use her though...

My first bassline I learnt was Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit.

first line i learned was come as you are by nirvana , only because the guy i bought the bass from showed it to me.. i guess that was in... '91 or so.

second line i learned was peace frog, by the doors. i can assure you at that time, it didn't sound much like the doors


first bass was a Kustom Kasino POS.. i gave it to my nephew about 3 years ago, and 2 days later his friend knocked it over and broke the bridge nut!

first bass was an ibanez silver bullet. absolute POS. wavy neck. no tone. at the time, i think that the bass was taller than i was. fingers wern't quite long enough, so i would sometimes fret the E string with my thumb.

Hmm... first line. Wabash cannonball. Not so much a line as a chord progression. lots of 1,5 1,5. that's the way to start as far as I'm concerned.

I Paid $15 in 1975 for a Sekova baby blue copy of a Fender Coronado hollow body. It was horrible.

First bass line that I could actually play: "Hey Hey, My My" by Neil Young. I pretty much play that line every time I pick up my bass. It's a habit. It's probably my favorite song of all time, and I think that we've all tried to attempt our favorite songs of all time, right?

First line that I ever played on stage: A created bassline to Wyclef Jean's "If I was President." Great song, and it was really grooving.

...first bass was one of those headless Steinberger copies. By Cort, if I remember correctly (We're going back almost 20 years, so bear with me.

The first song I learned on that crappy bass was the equally crappy "Pop Goes the World" by Men Without Hats.

Yay me.

First one I figured out by myself anyhow. First I learned were some jazz standards, mostly names I've long forgotten. How High the Moon and Night in Tunisia come to mind.

Oh and my first bass was a Hondo P copy, all black with a maple board, it was the school's bass. First one that was mine was an Arbor P/J that weighed 15 pounds, yeesh.
