My first one was an Ibanez, a copy of the P bass. Then I bought a 5 strings Sammick (that was quite a piece of junk!). Then I had a Rickenbaker '84 with a' 71 Ampeg for several years. Recently, I had an ESP LTD 6 strings an a MM Sterling 5, but I can't get used to actice pickups... And my best buddy ever is my Fender J bass...

My first bass, an Ibanez silver series lawsuit jazz bass, around 1978:
The bass isn't existing anymore, I only have the body here (and the picture is not mine, not showing my bass, but the same model).

Some samick piece of crap, and I mean a real piece of crap! Now I swap between a musicman sterling and a Warwick corvette
My first Bass was a Nevada P bass copy that cost my dad £89 5 years ago when i was 14, i have recently bought myself a Warwick Corvette and a Fender Jazz bass both are leagues better than what i started on.
My first bass was a used Jazz bass bought at a music store in the late 70's. I had it a few years before anyone realized it had a P-Bass neck (maple w/ black dots)! I took it to jams sessions (I was a drummer at the time) and even other experienced players did not notice the mixed body/neck combination.
I loaned the bass out and never got it back. I replaced it eventually with a custom build using genuine Fender replacement parts.

My first bass was a Yamaha RBX350. My current favourite is a pre-Gibson, Tobias Signature 5. Quite an improvement, hehe.

Black /w tourtoise Pigguard. Since i was into punk and metal back then, i modified it with Dimarzio humbuckers and plastered it with stickers. But overall, i didn't like that thing one bit and gladly sold it when getting something else.
My actual main bass is a custom 5 string /w fanned frets.
That old bass had absolutely no influence concerning my most recent purchase.

First bass was a Cort Jazz copy, loved it. Stupidly sold it for an Epiphone Tbird, then sold that for a Squier VM Jazz which I currently use alongside my Retrovibe bass.

First bass was a Kramer Aerostar - very lightweight, lacked ballsy lowend, played poorly. But, that was long before I obtained the wealth of useless knowledge I now have. Might be a different story today.
Today, I have a handful of Fenders - P Elite II, HM, P Special Deluxe, and Dimension. They all play and sound fantastic!

My first bass was a cheap violin bass from the late 60's early70's called a blackjack. Haven't found any info on these anywhere, although I haven't look real hard either. After about a year I was playing a Harmony solid body for awhile. There is something about those cheap early basses! I tend to like playing short scale, and the cheaper lower quality instruments attract me to this day. I play a Dano korean longhorn now, which has a cheap bridge and lousy tuners, but when its all set up it tends to be my favorite! My other basses are a Thunderbird and a Kala U-bass.
First Bass was a Jazz copy with a chrome pickguard. Good lows for the time. Kept it for 4 weeks to earn enough to buy my 64 Jazz in 64 that I have kept. Current main player is either a 32" Jazz from Japan or 32" 1986 P from Japan. Both of which I love and cover most of the styles that I play.

First bass was a 2nd hand black 78 fender musicmaster. My brother taught me how to play the bass on Queen 'Another one bites the dust' so that I could play something in the shop. Current bass is a fender precision.
