Your first bass vs. what you play now

my first bass was a Kay P-Bass copy my parents bought me for $100 from a pawn shop (new). now i play MusicMans, Tom Clement (luthier plug! WOO!) and coming here in a few months Mayones. basically basses that generally are over $1000...remember you get what you pay for.

My first bass was a Yamaha BB300 (P bass clone)
My current No1 bass is a Fender P

Despite having gone through numerous other basses over many years it looks like I've sort of come full circle in terms of styling and tone.

I startet with some Hohner Preci copy in "full red" and the bass was turned und strung up upside down 'cause I'm a lefty :smug: (it's nice to feel the potis on your wrist while playing :scowl:)

Today I'm lucky to play Fodera , Smith and Fender :hyper::bassist:

My first bass was a knock off Fender P bass. That bass was strictly made for, for, for NOTHING! But it got me by in my garage band days.
Today's bass n sound is by far for me is light years ahead!

2nd try.
first real bass, gibson t-bird (bicentennial). neck thru, mahogany body.
current basses, roscoe skb5006 and carvin ac-50 both are neck thru with mahogany bodies.
I didn't think about much when I got them but i guess that first bass had more influence than i would have guessed.

First bass was a St. George thunderbird copy. Not very good, bought it for $60 back in '78 or so...

Now... sheesh... I've stepped up to a $99 Ashland by Crafter J-bass copy...

My first bass was a Fender Squier P-Bass that I got in a package with an amp, a cable and a gig bag as well. I still play it from time to time. My current bass is a 2007 Geddy Lee Jazz. As for amps, my first bass amp was that POS 15Watt Fender Rumble from the package deal, my amp now is a 2007 Ashdown Electric Blue 180Watt beast! :D

My first bass was a Hondo ll, I think late 70's model, real thin neck, very low action. I bought it from a friend who plays tremendous guitar..bass as a back up, I paid him 70 bucks for it in 1986. I still have it...sitting in the corner, next to my since Fender squier p, and my newest Fender Jazz that gives me goose bumps when I play her. I also have a Hondo acoustic bass, with action too high. In fact because of this thread, when I get home from work, I think I'l pick up that first Hondo ll...its been a long time, but the action is so low you can barely get any sustained tone. But sentimental just the same.
