i bought it for an 1/8th of pot... it was a very cheap fender p copy.

when i got my 2nd bass i smashed the **** out of it on the road - twas fun, but i regret it now for sentimental reasons!

my 2nd bass is a hohner b-bass...

* it was black, but is now natural
* it was fretted and is now fretless
* it was active, but is now passive
* it did have an EQ, now it doesnt

I'll try and get a piccy of it soon so y'all can see - tis pretty alarming i can tell you!!!

Well, my carvin LB-75 that I have now was the bass that I started on. It was my step dad's and I eventually bought it from him. But before I bought it from him, I bought a squire p-bass special. I wanted to have a bass of my own, so I could take it places and get leasons (wasn't allowed to take the carvin because it wasn't mine at the time :(). I don't know why I didn't just buy the carvin at first come to think of it. I sold that squire after owning it for a year. It was junk. I have heard good stories about squire's but this wasn't one of those basses. I hated it. On top of everything wrong with it, it was purple. It looked very "gay" (how can a bass be gay? I dunno). So it comes down to that I sold the first bass that I owned and I still have the bass that I started on.

My first was a bass my dad borrowed from the bass player in the band he was in. The color was this puke-orange thing that made you sick to look at. Eventually, the guy wanted it back, so i finally got to get one of my own! (when i was 12, now i'm 15, so its all pretty fresh in my memory :) :rolleyes: )

My first and only bass, an Ibanez Iceman, is something I can't see myself ever parting with. I love that ornery, odd shaped plank... I just installed a Kahler trem and had the frets dressed, and its like a whole new bass. Don't want/need another. Okay, maybe something fretless... :D

My first bass was a short-scale bolt-on hollow body rented from the local music emporium, and later bought from them when the rent receipts exceeded the original list price.

It was a piece of $%^&, at least for rock (which was all I was interested in). It had a wooden bridge which couldn't be intonated. I stuffed it full of paper towels to try to stop the feedback, but it was no use.

Somewhere along the way I destroyed it. Deliberately. Gladly. Man, I hated that thing!

OTOH, I still have the first bass I ever bought new - a 1987 Peavey Patriot. It's humble, but it has its charms, and it has a great rock'n'roll tone. I've graduated to 5 string basses, but I still drag out the Patriot when I'm in a "kick out the jams!" kind of mood.

It was a pretty crappy Rickenbacker copy. I think it cost about $80 in 1981.

I sold it to a pawn shop for a lot less when I got my second bass, a Rickenbacker 4001.

I sold that one when I got to college and picked up a steinberger. Still wish I had the Rick. Traded the 'berger to a friend for a guitar and some effects. It was one of the cheaper wooden body jobs with a composite neck. It SUCKED.

Got a Spector after that. Nice bass. Still have it -- though I'm trying to sell it to raise cash for a new SWR head.

Play a Fender Jazz these days. Tried and true.

It was a brand-new P-bass, yellow with a shell pickguard, that my parents got me for Christmas 1967. I've got a picture but too embarrassed to post it because of the Neru jacket I'm wearing. When I stopped playing a few years later, I sold it to buy an engine for my car. I started playing again about three years ago and stumbled across the Fender reissue of my original P-bass, same color. Needless to say, I'll keep that one.

I got it out of the paper. It had noisey electronics that I finally got fixed. I never really learned to use the 3 way eq before I got another one.

I eventually ripped the frets out as a winter project. The mwah on this thing is pretty nice with tapewounds.

It's never had very good sustain or volume (when unplugged), but it does have a nice tone when amped.

My first bass was a Carvin Studio bass with dual outputs, and more nobs then I knew what to do with. It was a hard playing bass. It wasn't a neck through, but it wasn't a bolt on either. Then my next bass was a Fernandez 5 string J-Bass, it was alright, but about a year later my Fender Std. J-Bass took over, picked up a Corvette 5 fretless and found no use for the Fernandez, so I sold that. I did decide, just a couple of days ago actually, that I would no longer sell any more of my basses. So there's my story. Sorry I don't have any pictures.
