I still have and play my first bass. It's a natural stain Yamaha RBX 260. Heavily modded now, of course. I've got big dents worn in the wood from playing it. It's a little piece of me, now.

First two basses were utter crap (both made by some old, sorry company called "Lori" and bought at Sam Goody MANY moons ago). Unloaded 'em on blood brother and frat brother, respectively.
First "real" bass was an '82 Fender P-Bass, purchased new by my pop and given to me for my birthday in '83. Still have it and always will.

My first bass was an Austin 5 string. Cheap low-output pups, lightweight hollow-sounding plywood body, and no punch to speak of. I converted it to a fretless then got bored and sold it. It did have a very comfortable neck and body however!
I've still got my first, and my second and i'm now onto my third, i seem to get attached to the things. It's a samick p-bass copy and its really crap but i love it none the less.
Also its my only four string as my other two and both fivers so thats a good reason to keep it.

Will never part with it, maybe a few mods, like a Hipshot tremolo and nickel plated body 
, but so far it's all stock except for the Hipshot Xtender key and scalloped upper eight frets. This bass is my baby, still play it, don't lend it to anyone, etc.

I bought my first bass about 23 years ago. A brand-new Hondo P-bass, black body, black pickguard and maple (?) fretboard. Chosen because it was cheap and I knew jack about instruments. Thank you, Sam Ash.
So cheesy that it didn't even have a P-style pickup in it..so it wasn't even a proper P-bass copy! Neck like the proverbial baseball bat...and I mean the fat end of the bat. Action so high you could drive a truck under it.
What a total piece of sh....uperb engineering that was. It was so crappy that music store techs REFUSED to work on it.
I must have sold it, but I don't remember to whom or for how much.
Good riddance.

- A Kramer Duke medium-scale Steinberger copy
- Some unremarkable piece of plywood crap
- A Steinberger XL2 (my first decent instrument)
- A Hohner B2F fretless Steinberger copy
- A Carvin LB75A (current main bass)
- A Carvin BB75FP (also current, to complement the LB75)
Some day, if I ever get a real job again, I might get a boutique bass (current GAS is for an MTD 535, but I'll never be able to afford it).

i just got my first bass i defretted it and etchant the fretboard black.......... and it looks and plays still good........

This is my first bass. I still use it live and in recording. Feels better than the Essex Jazz for some basslines. It's had a few mods in the 2 1/2 years that I've had it(Dunlop Straplocks, Fender '62 RI P-pickup, bridge/pickup covers)

My first bass, and actually only bass (I've only been playing bass for about 3/4 a year...but i've take years of guitar) is a Midnight Wine Fender P. I love that bass. I'm not sure if I would sell it, as of now, of course not.
My first bass was a Tele-Star, a p-bass copy w/o the split p/u since then 2 Hagstroms (4&8 string).an EB-3,'65 Fender Jazz, Stingray (a Leo)'68 Fender Telecaster(w that crummy little pu)and now have a Fender Jazz Bass Plus. Looking to buy a neck through Carvin? Warwick? Ibanez? Comments?
My first bass was an Encore which I got at the age of 14 in 1989. I can't remember what model name it was, but it was a small black bass with a single split pickup and looked a little like Les Paul Junior. I had to switch the srings around to the left-handed position but in my blissful naivety at the time, I didn't know that the nut had to be changed also.I also didn't get the top strap button switched from the top horn to the bottom. Oh well,it was only my first one and I learned a bunch of songs on it.
I still have my first bass a Fender 1967 MIA Jazz bass. My father gave it to me.
Then in 1974 I purchased this MIA P bass.

i sold it so i could buy a new bass it was a peavey milestone IV. i know the guy i sold it to and i dont think he ever uses it...so...one day i might buy it back if i have some money to blow.

My 1st bass was a Fender MIM Jazz bass that I modified with EMG's & a BadAss II.

I still have and use my first bass. I traded an Electrovoice 664 and $100 for this '61 P in 1967. Sadly I removed the finish back then. I still have the original ashtrays, bridge, case, etc. It's a "keeper".

Been playing since March of 01 so that would be a little over 2 and a half years. And my Cort Action bought for 300 dollars new and shiny and scratch free. And now its probably worth 300 dollars still including 150 dollar pickups.
Its been with me since the beginning and has a bunch of dents and scratches and cracks on the neck and rough spots and we have a love/hate relationship. I love it because it fits my hands and they are used to the flat neck, but I hate it because its poorly made Korea trash(compared with other basses).
Its had several mods recently, including: Bartolini P/J pups(I play it through an Aguilar DB594) so it sounds pretty decent, the pots have been cleaned in the past 2 months, the pot connections have been resoldered and thats about it.
Here she is as of May without clean pots or Barts.
