My first bass was an old Lyle short-scale. It had an SG body, and I think it was made in.. 74-75? I sold it a few years ago.

Sold mine, Sunburst Samick 4 string, P/J pickups. The pickguard covered almost all of the front of the body.

I bought a piece of junk Kramer Baretta 420S off a guy for 70 bucks. The pots scratched so bad I wouldn't turn them for anything, plus they didn't do a whole lot except make it hum more. But it ignited the fire so I can't knock it. I wound up selling it for 60 bucks about 2 months later and bought an active deluxe Jazz which was an underachiever to say the least.

I would NEVER sell my first bass, a medium scale 4-string Tamara. Mostly because of sentimental attachment, which is never replaceable.

Squier P-Bass starter pack. Royal blue, white pickguard. Very very humble beginnings, and I shuddered to play one of them the other day. *shudder* Things like that make me love my Ibanez more and more. Haven't been able to stand any Fender I've ever played since I got 'Krista.' And yes, I did play an American one.

In 1981 I learned to play on a 67 P-Bass...I had no idea what I had at the time...my Junior High band director let me have it for about 4 years before asking for it to be returned. Best I can tell it is the reason I still compare all tones to a classic P sound when deciding if I like the way an instrument sounds.

Now have Ibanez SR305DX .. and maybe i'll sell this bass too and buy Ibanez BTB 405

My first bass was a '73 tele bass. Got it in '77 and still have it. Played it exclusively until I got my Q6 in '85.

This is my first bass, a 1967 TeleStar Teardrop Semi Acoustic finished in Sunburst along with my first amp a 1967 Vox Essex. Both were bought new and are still in excellent condition as you can see.
I've owned them for 36 years and don't plan on ever parting with them.

I have played the same bass for 7 years. It's an old Ovation Ultra bass from the 80's. I got it from a pawn shop. Sje still works, but it would be nice to get a 5.

I still have and occaisionally play my first bass.

It is a Peavey Fury bought new in '87.

I replaced the pickups with EMGs, installed a Hipshot D-Tuner back in the early '90's, and this summer I defretted it.

It's got a nice Jazz type neck, and good P-bass thump. I have it strung with flats, and use it for old school blues stuff.

Here is a pick of me using it prior to defretting it.

Can't remember quite why I got rid of it, wish I'd kept it.
