My first bass guitar was a sunburst Squier Jazz Bass from the Silver Series. Don't exactly know how old it is, because I bought it second hand. A few years ago a professional guitar builder made it fretless for me and he was astonished by the sound of it. I still play gigs with it. Although I also have a Fender bass guitar, I prefer my Squier. And not just for sentimental reasons. :D

Still have mine, and still use it to record. Black on white Fender P with maple on maple neck, body is mid 70's and the neck is mid to late 60's and was stripped of the laquer and oiled long before I got it. Currently has a warmoth pickgaurd since the old one broke, a Seymour Duncan QP pickup, a Hipshot style A bridge, Hipshot ultralight tuners, bone nut, slightly flattened fretboard (I think 10 inch radius), and 6000 or 6100 fretwire. The body finish is also this really hideous shade of yellow nowadays, chock full of dings and dents. Its worthless but it plays nice.

MIM Fender Jazz. I think it was a 2000 model, not sure. White with white pickguard. I put EMG pups in it and it sounds awesome, though it's been a year since it's had actual knobs on the shafts.It's dinged up pretty well (three years in a garage with heavy use followed by a semester in a dorm with even heavier use'll do that). I don't really care about resale value with it, I'm never sellin' this baby. Am I the only one who finds it weird that while I've got an Ibanez BTB with a three band EQ and almost non-existant action, I'm still using the Fender with the VVT control setup for recording? Just something I noticed the other day. (hugs Amy....that's her name)

I still have everybass i ever owned. I keep telling myself i'll sell them but i just can't do it. My first bass is now in progress of getting a major upgrade. I'll be putting in Bartolini jazzes and an aguilar OBP-1, defreting it, and striping it and painting it a 3 tone fender sunburts. Should be really fun when its done. :D


Its a Jackson C4P.

still got my first bass but its evolved its a washburn b2 its been fretless but is now refretted to the 12thfret also has schaller m4 machines,bass lines qp pickup and emg btc active circuit still loving the neck of this bass and it sounds soooo nice now.its just good to pick up and play still after 17 years. :bassist:

Got my first bass in 1965, a Noble (Japanese semi-Beatle bass copy).

I still have it, but it's wiring/jack needs some repairs.
I'm thinking of fixing and defretting it.
It has a way-narrow neck that would take some re-adjusting to play (I play an SR5 now).

Been through a Gibson EB-0 (my 2nd bass -- stolen) and a Fender MIJ fretless Jazz bass (sold so I could afford a printer while in college -- really regret selling it).

Missed an opportunity to get a used, early or mid-1960's Fender Jazz bass for $125 back in 1972 cause I thought I was too broke (there had to have been some way to pull that off -- if I had only known then...).

My first bass was a Warwick Streamer ProM.
I sold it to a local music store to get money to by a Warwick Streamer Stage I.

When I realised what I had done I borrowed money and bought the ProM back from the store before they got the time to sell it.
I love/loved that bass' playability. I changed the MEC pickup to a Seymour Duncan basslines pickup, and changed the preamp to a Aguilar.

Played it for a few months and later bought a Fender Jazzbass '62 reissue for the money I got for the Streamer Stage I (+ some more money)

I now have a 1964 Fender Jazz Bass and I've never tried anything that's better sounding, or playing.


I never play the Warwick anymore, but I will never sell it. I learned to play on it and have used it for hundreds of gigs.
I guess you get a special relationship to your first low-frequence tool :-)

Absolutely they are. My Jazz has a dead spot about the 7th fret on the E string because the body cracked where the neck bolts to it, but it still sounds pretty good for all that. Hard to beat for having paid $250 for it used in a guitar shop when I was 17.

Just found out my Jazz was made in 1993. It's older than I thought it was. It's not my main bass anymore, but it's still fun to noodle around on.

My first bass was a beat up Fender Musicmaster. Wasted money on it putting a big brass DiMarzio bridge and a fat black humbucker on it. Still sounded like a short scale rubber band, but I couldn't afford what I really wanted... a real Jazz bass. Served me well enough until I could. :)

My first Jazz, now THERE's a bass I wish I'd kept. Bought brand new in 78, heavy ash body, maple fb, all natural finish, sounded INCREDIBLE, but was so heavy I had to lose it. I wish I knew where it was today... :rolleyes:
