Mine was a cheapo Samick with a P pickup. Sounded like a cardboard box! I completely abused that instrument after I got my first "real" bass. I tore the frets out, sawed off the horns to give it a teardrop shape, did weird things to the headstock, spraypainted it blue... :o I had it around in that form for awhile until one day I snapped the truss rod in it. Then I just threw it in a dumpster! I still have some of the hardware and the pickup somewhere in the far reaches of a closet, I think.

I wish I didn't throw it away. I would've tried to fix it up now, years later. :)

Was a New York Pro J-Copy 5. That's right, I started out on a 5. Since then, I moved to 4. And I hope to go back to 5 shortly. I think the company who made my first bass changed their name, so don't expect to find any of them shortly. I traded it in a loooooooong time ago.

The bass had no senitmental value to me. It almost had no value in a financial sense either. It cost my parents $250. I am currently in the process of selling my 2nd bass. You want it? It's cool.

Edit: Have I already posted in this thread?

I've still got my Yamaha 370A, but i've barely played it since I got my hands on a Corvette FNA Ltd. So for Christmas I got it de-fretted and put some flats on it and in the last 2 days I've played it quite a lot. Needs a better setup, but it has potential, and it's much better than leaving it around collecting dust!

My first bass was a Squier P-Bass. It was, in a word, horrible. It had more dead frets then playable ones. Of course there is that “first bass emotional attachment” deal so I have been unable to part with it as of yet and still pull it out form time to time to rehash the past.;)
