Your go to strings

I don't know about ever using em outside the house. I don't think the sound would be right in the mix with the whole band. I'll be sure to update the thread on whatever I try.

Yup. Agreed. Its a sacrifice of something you need for something you only kinda-sorta want. I don't despise flats, they're just a different way to make sound. Can't find a use for them personally. Steve Harris is a freak being able to make them work the way he does in heavy music though, power to him.

They sure aren't for those after a more subdued tone, but as far as zing longevity goes, there truly is no equal on the market. I think you'll be pleased.
If you listen to the last two albums the suicide machines put out, they have a different bass player from the other 4 or so albums they put out. Thier original player is like an idol of mine as far as style and tone goes but the new dude is a monster and his tone is super crunchy. If it's not a band your familiar with, the tune called "hands tied" is a solid example of that guys work.

I use Fender tapes on my 4 string fretlesses and GHS tapes on my 5 string fretless.
My 5 string fretted has a set of Pro Steels on it.
My 74 Jazz has GHS Pressure Wounds and my 54/55 Fender Reissue has GHS Precision Flats.
A Fender Short Scale and a Peavey Foundation with Fender 7250s on them. Also, I have an Ibanez SRX 400 with SIT Power Wound nickels.
After glancing the list I guess I do tend to lean towards GHS and Fender. My choices tend to change often.

Rick - Marcus Miller signature Dunlop Super Brights
Yamaha 5string - DR Fat Beams (although I just replaced them with my last set of MM Dunlop Super Brights to use up stock)
Yamaha 4string - DR SS Lo-Riders
Spector fretless - currently sporting D'Addario XLs but I haven't found it's perfect match yet.

I’m curious about the NYXL’s. How do they compare to nickel XL’s with feel, sound, longevity and appearance?
They feel a little rougher and definitely have more tension. They are a little...sort of more like stainless, but not as bright. Probably just between XLs and Prosteels. I really like them on certain basses. I did not like them on my MIA Jazz.

Excellent! Thank you for the reply. I probably would not like the rough feel but, I’ll at least try them and have an idea of what I’m in for.

D'Addario Nickel Wound Balanced Tension 45-107 (EXL170BT) is my go-to string for feeling out a bass or just having a general purpose affordable option. Based on those I can decide what sound I'd rather have when buying my next set.
