Your Look On Stage

I am offended :spit: because that's me absolutely, but that's how I usually dress.

I would never get on stage dressed the way i normally dress.

This is music, there are fun bands out there where the Hawian Shirt thing is appropriate. Some of us are in Rock bands and it's a different story.

And I guess it depends on what your band mates are wearing too.

Having been taken to task for my opinions on attire before, let me suggest that if you're young, do whatever the hell you want.

The older you get, the more important it is to dress to impress.

Even so, if you're young, you might consider that dressing up shows respect for the audience and the music.

I really liked the look of that guy above with the great bass, the white goatee and mustache, dress slack, sweatrer and little blue cuffs showing.

Going for a look? The idea sort of makes me wan't to vomit.. I don't mind people doing so, it can be fun and great, but that just ain't me. Yeah, if I played for James Brown I'd be happy to wear what ever he asks, but otherwise I'll wear the same low quality discount bin leftovers as I always do and if a band asked me to wear anything else because of image or whatever they would most likely have to find a new bassplayer. I'd be happy to wear a nice suit though, but someone else would have to pay for it, I've got gear to buy :)

Funerals aside, I usually look like I woke up from the dumbster and with my face, nice clothes would just be like polishing a turd.

It depends on what your doing andthe kind of band your in. The whole Look thing, I understand gets away from some guys, and thats ok.

Hell I get about 2 hours to be someone other than me. I am takin full advantage of that.

On the other hand, i'm completely paranoid about gear-professionalism. I think a pro-level band should have pro-level (or at least 'looking') gear. I usually bring a head and a 2x15... our guitarist brings a low-end Peavey 2x12 modeling amp. Even though half the time we are mic'd, it bothers me, personally to NO end because of the apperance we are putting forward as a band. They say that it shouldn't mater as long as the sound coming from it is good. Am i right? I think so, but i understand where THEY are coming from. Then i counter with their strict adhearence to dress code with their counter to my amp/cab argument... it all goes in a never ending circle.

So, as far as dress goes, there's no reason to knock it or say it's 'wrong', because in certain sittuations, it's a VERY important aspect and a very dynamic PART of the band itself.[/QUOTE]

Hmmm, what a great point.

Cool looking pro level gear also impacts the look of the band.

I like a neat looking stage new amps, nice orderly looking pedal boards. But thats just me.

on stage , i look sorta' like this ...

:D

Pulling it off, very cool, Nice look! And he ain't 17.

When else do us grown-ups get to wear just about whatever you want, no matter how outrageous? If you're not taking advantage of being in a band to be different, then what's the point?

+1 to the professional gear comments, as well. I think that can make a big difference. We're not some garage band--we're a pro show.

Western shirts are a standard for me in the rag bag. "Don't leave home without one."

Seriously whatver type of band your in the Western shirt always gets over.
every time i see one of those i recall a friend of mine.... back in the early seventies,he had a cowboy shirt, which he proudly wore into one of the northern bc logging town bars, that used to be pretty rough places at times.....while standing at the urinal some huge logger asked him if he had the "matching panties that went with that shirt".....he somehow avoided the beating he thought he was about to get but he never wore it again
