Your Look On Stage

been there, done that. the problem is you picked a type of music that has a lot of people fighting to play it for free. can't compete with that. there's money to be made in music that nobody likes to play. did a gig with a bluegrass band a couple weeks ago playing the most tired old bluegrass songs ever...one of the best paying local gigs i've had.

im just really down on where i am at the moment. cincinnati is where dreams go to die. we consistently outplay every band that is presented to us. we put an a wild show. we have songs that are the perfect blend of tough, interesting, catchy and smart. and yet.. no one cares.

we leave 5 people in a crowd utterly speechless, but nothing comes of it. we never see them again. the crowds arent getting bigger. apathy is completely wrecking what should be a good hype.

we end up booking all these shows playing to 40 year old bar patrons that just hate our guts. the all ages venue is ran by a clique of people that we apparently arent in with. we have to go to dayton just to get a decent show. and then we dont get paid at all, let alone enough for gas money.

blech. i feel like somehow everyone else has it easier.

Beanie, Black or Navy Dickies work shirt, Camo, Khaki, or Olive Green Cargos.
or
Black T shirt, and Dark Jeans (not black).
with
Red Wings work boots (black), Vans sneakers (tan), or my ADIDAS El Segundo (white with black toe cap, tongue, and laces).
But maybe I should start rocking a snuggie.

I think my biggest criticism on myself and partly through reading this thread (which is good) is that i do a good job of getting in to it and playing to myself on stage, But i need to look to the crowd more! Luckily our bands fronted by 3 people and they do a ****ing awesome job of getting people involved!

Sure this is something that will come with more experience though :)

You should dress for the expectations of what your projected audience perceive you should look like as a band …
and you have the power to raise or lower the bar on that.

For us presentation from the music to the look is everything, in our case it can make the difference between the group of
conventioneers in town for three days from Albuquerque leaving us $100.00 in tips because they came to Memphis and got
the whole Blues and BBQ experience they expected, or leaving the venue you play thinking “I can see this at home”

If you were to ask Jimmy M what people expect when they go to see Bowswer, my guess is he will say they
come away from the show having experienced what they expected to see and hear.
That goes for every pro band from AC/DC to Sunn O))))

From a somewhat dressed down outdoor winery gig ...

To corporate and BB Kings or Hard Rock Cafe gigs (and yes this is stage wear in the promo shot) it's all part of it IMHO.

I try to wear stuff thats bright and splashy, I've allways believed that a band should be dressed diffrently than the regular bar crowd. Cheeze Louis t-shirts and Jeans common guys and girls you can do better than that. Remember your part of a show your on stage and making an awful lot of noise. Try standing out from all the other bands and get dressed up and have fun. My best place to shop are the trift stores tons-o-great stuff there. I've even found silk purple jackets with leapord skin cuffs and lapels now thats flash. Even the hard core biker types have come up and said they enjoyed the show more because we looked the part as well as played the part. My rant is over, most important of all is to go out and have fun.

This is SHOW-bidnus y'all!

Now you see , that is awesome cool, getting pros to do your look.

Take the best looking band of all time.Do you think they came up with those haircuts and suits on their own,

Please, even if your 17, don't ask what band am I talking about.

Thanks, Its hard for most people to allow someone else how too look. But like everything else in music, you need a trusted outside opinion. Producers, fans, artists, photographers etc. We have our guidelines of course, like I don't see us using Guyliner, but that's why its important to hire the right person. Like if your doing a metal album don't go to a POP producer/engineer.

i doubt you'd be as interested in them anyway. well.. other than looking at them. i think most women over 25 look like horses (as a matter of principle). im sure a mature grown gent would think otherwise.

Somebody send this guy some pics of hot 26-30 year old women and ask him to point out the horse element

it's not where you are,it's competing with cable, dvd, video games, ipoods,dj's,karaoke etc.for audiences with the attention span of a gnat......sadly i think the better you are musically the harder it is to get it across
