Your Look On Stage

I like a neat, uncluttered stage. I hate stepping on guitar stands.

I am glad you mentioned that again. You know, if the band looks great but you got the stage clutteres up with old beat to hell lookin gear, messed up lookin pedal boards, it's going to mess up the look of your band.

My philosophy on image has always been...

1. The look should never overshadow the music and the band should never be just about the look.

2. For better or for worse, image is important. Accept it.

3. All things being equal, stage presence seperates the professionals from the ametuers. The suit doesn't make the man (or woman), but it helps to have an edgy visual apperance.

4. I like bands with personality, both with their sound and image. Going back to rule 1, the band should kick ass, but I hate it when a band looks like it just got off its shift stocking shelves at Wal-Mart.

With that said, I've had no philosophical issues dressing up for a gig. It helps that I'm more metro than the average dude. I'm more fashion-conscious than my girlfriend, though she's not very fashiony to begin with. *lol* I've done a lot of the standard archetypes...

Metro-y pleather pants and blazer:

The drummer I played with at the time and I even wore Asian shirts with frog buttons on stage that a friend and fan gave us:

So yeah, hopefully Maki doesn't revoke my man card for posting umpteen photos of myself. :D

cincinnati is where dreams go to die.

Damn, so that's where my dreams went. Don't give up, it's bad everywhere! (Was that supposed to be encouraging?)

Thirteen Mirrors wears ties. We do it primarily to make the point that we're less comfortable than our audience, which seems to work. I certainly feel less comfortable.

Yes, I know. Clown hair. Word of advice to all: choose your stylist carefully. It's taken forever for that damage to grow out. Lesson learned from this show: now I choose a bass that contrasts with my clothes.

On rare occasions we are allowed to wear black:

It looks good, but it's not nearly as recognizable.

+1
i hate when anyone takes the stage with no shirt, it screams "im trying way too hard to be a bad ass!"

bad ass.. maybe. but its mostly a comfort thing. why sweat up a perfectly good shirt? thats twice as much laundry. i sweat like a pig in daylight. let alone my pasty ass under ridiculously powerful lights.

why deal with the strap pulling at your shirt collar and having to fiddle with it? why not be THAT much closer to your instrument?

i play in aggressive rock bands. it works. ive got the physique to pull it off. ive been doing it for years, and will continue to do so (as long as the venue allows. some of these christian clubs dont go for it).

I think everyone should have one.I guess it depends on he type of band your in.

For me in a Pop Rock Band, I have been working on a 60's kind of look but contemporary at the same time.

I purchased this new Eastwood to enhance the look I am going after.
I wear a black shirt no sleeves, black leather vest
black or blue jeans a black Hard Rock Cafe fedora hat I bought from the Paris Hard Rock Cafe with a Phoenix bird on the side (The name of my band is THE PHOENIXBAND) , black sneakers, dark shades and two black wrist bands with flames... RTS

I mostly wear black, or a jeans/t-shirt but without any badges, just single colored wear and matching the lighting colors. :) I love stage light and clothes working together.

I really enjoy the look of Jamaladeen Tacuma though...

Last night, it was jeans, a white oxford dress shirt, red bow tie, navy blazer, navy fedora hat and sunglasses. This was a less formal gig, though. For more casual gigs, I'll wear a cowboy hat, jeans and a bowling shirt (see the avatar), but for more "concerty" gigs, I usually wear a dark business suit with a bow tie and hat.
