Much as I may hate to say it, the Dodgers have really been amazing. I can't think of any team that turned it around that strongly in a season.
It pays to spend, if you spend wisely.

I'm not sure if you mean within a season or from one season to the next. The Red Sox are certainly a team that turned it around from one season to the next but they have been pretty good all year. The Dodgers have certainly turned around within the season and have been on a tear since late June in a season - I don't follow the NL that closely - what would you attribute the turnaround to.

At first, I thought the big trade last year was a lopsided win for the Sox; but it is good to see that Gonzales and Crawford are playing well and helping the Dodgers - the change of scenery was good for Crawford and Gonzales is putting up the numbers that he has been putting up for the last 7 years. I trust that LA wasn't counting on too much from Beckett and that is exactly what they have got.

Nice turnaround for the Pirates Wednesday night. I was concerned that extra inning loss on Tuesday was going to ruin the series for them. Liriano was *so* close to a shutout, but cool to see him get the complete game. If I remember right, Liriano got lit up by the Rockies in his last start. So even more impressive to shake that off and shut down a team like the Cardinals in his next start.

Liriano has been a great story this season. Too bad all the PED talk has covered it over.

-Mike

Yeah, that game on the 9th was like fireworks for the first 2 innings but had a quick run cool down.

All the PED talk probably has overshadowed lots of great stories, but I also think that the problem had been glossed over for far too long and is a completely unacceptable thing to be happening. I'm glad it got the coverage, and I'm glad the cheaters are facing consequences. I don't think the penalties are anywhere near stringent enough though.

Cards cooling off or what?

Agreed. A swift severe penalty & less media cover please.

It will take a miracle (or a bomb hitting the Dodger bus) for anyone in the West to catch the Dodgers this year. They're on fire.
Watching (or listening to) the Gigantes this year is hard. Most of it is execution and those intangibles that make baseball, well, baseball.

They haven't been hot. Only 4-6 in the last 10.

-Mike

They were "only" hot for about 60% of a season and until recently had held the highest run differential in the majors despite playing in the hottest division. :eyebrow: So yeah ice cold. ;)

ESPN's telling me we're still @ 95.7% to get to the playoffs. And I'd happily take a WC spot. Seems to help "slingshot" teams deep into October.

Yup a tip of my baseball cap to the Dodgers they are a darn good team. I still hate them though. :ninja:

I will take both sentences as a compliment.

As much as I dislike the Giants, I will not stoop so low as to bash them at this point. I prefer it when the Dodgers-Giants rivalry is alive and kicking...with the Dodgers doing a majority of the kicking, of course.

For a while, it looked like the Dodgers were going to need to win the Division to get a chance at the playoff, because they sure weren't going to be the NL wild card. If theis keeps up much longer, however, the Dodgers are going to end up with the best record in both leagues.
