Well poo! Royals lost to Detroit again today and so the Tigers took the series 3 games to 2. Would have been a nice confidence boost for the Royals if they would have won the series. We should easily be able to pick up some wins against the White Sox this week though!

Because it's happening in Detroit instead of LA, NYC , Chicago, or Boston, I don't think many of us have an idea what we are witnessing with Miguel Cabrarra. Over the last 162 games he has hit .361 with 52 HR's and 161 RBI's. He's on a pace to hit over .350, with over 50 HR's and 150 RBI's this season. The last guy to do that was Mickey Mantle in 1956, and he only did it once.

Only two other players have accomplished that in a season, Jimmy Foxx once, and Babe Ruth three times. Ted Williams, Willy Mays, and Hank Aaron never came close. Other than Bobby "Roid" Bonds, no one has done anything close to this in the modern era. And since there has never been a hint of drug use in Cabrarra's history, what we are witnessing this year is truly historic, something that hasn't happened in over sixty years. He is truly one of the two or three best hitters in HISTORY.

Ryan Dempster, who has been a good addition to the Sox clubhouse and rotation this year, did a very stupid selfish thing by intentionally hitting A-Rod last night. Not only did it lead to Sox giving back a 2 run lead, it seemed to spark the Yankees and it accomplished the impossible by making A-Rod look like a victim. Not only was it a stupid move, he didn't even execute it well - it took four pitches to do it :rolleyes:. There was absolutely no need for the Sox to get involved in the A-Rod drama and as it turned out, no good came of it.

The Sox finally started hitting which is good, but wasted an opportunity for a much needed win before heading to the West Coast for games against the Giants and the Dodgers.

While the first two games were played in a relatively brisk 3 1/2 hour pace; last night was a 4 hours and twelve minutes and ended after midnight in the Eastern time zone. :spit:

hell yeah...i was going to post last night, but decided not to....now i am...

i am a braves fan and could not care less about the yankees/red sox or anything in the american league for that matter....BUT...

i watched that, and thought, man, what an imbecile....took 4 pitches, and by the time it was through, i was FOR the Yankees...:rollno:

hey, Dempster...way to go....you look like a baby and no good came of it....let baseball work out the A-Rod thing...just play ball....i now hope the Red Sox lose, where i did not care before

I've never understood the "intentional hit" thing in baseball. Apparently, in some cases, it is acceptable to hit a man with a baseball at 90mph or so. That's insane

In other news, the Dodgers are starting to make me care about baseball. Just a little ;)

+1. One of the major turnoffs of baseball for me. And the cases where it's considered acceptable are so often pathetic grade-school crap like "Oh, he took an extra 1.5 seconds to run the bases on that homer, I'll show him!":rollno:

And baseball players come off as the most arrogant and d-baggish of all the professional athletes. Makes no sense, as they're the least athletic of them all. If you could look like this

I would, but the sports I do follow these days have plenty of faults of their own.:D

I used to play racquetball with a guy who was bigger than that. He could run fast as lightening and run my skinny butt into the ground. Appearances can be deceiving. Also, a pitcher pretty much has to stand a throw. It's not as though he has to run two miles per game.

There was a Dodger doing an interview on the radio a few days ago when they were about to play the Phillies. He told the radio host "Yeah I'm having a cheesesteak...last time we were out here I had like 12...I'm gonna try and keep it to one per day this week" :D

I'd suggest easing up on baseball players. The act of throwing a baseball 90+ MPH is not natural and the act of hitting a baseball thrown 90+ MPH remains one of, if not the, single, most difficult things to do in any sport. Not to mention, the bravery to stand in a batter's box with the knowledge that, sooner or later, (they play 162 regular season games), a baseball thrown somewhere between 75 -100 MPH will hit you.

They can be. But was your racquetball buddy a big, strong guy or did he just look like some random at the bar?

Whenever I see a baseball roster, I'm like, "Dude. This is a sports team?"

Also I am well aware that baseball takes a skill set all its own. But jeepers creepers why do you have to be so arrogant about it??

Yeah, but he's also clearly on a path to do it this season. The Irony is his numbers are better at this point than when he won the Triple Crown last year, something that hadn't been done since 67. If he pulls this off he will be the first guy to hit 50 HR, 150 RBI's, 350 BA since 56, and it's only been done 5 times in baseball history (3 times by Babe Ruth). Excluding Bobby Roid Bonds. He is truly on a pace to have one of the greatest regular seasons in Baseball history, and his OPB is over .400 too. This is a guy who hits .400 with men on base and whose average actually goes up with two strikes!

If he was in NYC, LA, Boston, or Chicago, he'd be leading off Sportcenter every night and would have been on the cover of SI half a dozen times this year.

Nope, this isn't a "poor little Detroit" sob story. All kinds of crap in MLB has ruined some great story lines this season.
