Your most memorable live show

I have two. When I was way under age, my folks just dropped me off to see Delany and Bonnie, with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Booker T, Rita Coolidge, (among others) in the band. Great show! The next was opening for Miles Davis, up in the Bay area. Huge venue. I'd worked with a few of the guys in his band, so it was a great hang. Miles left right after his last solo..... Off stage, in car, gone. His band was still killin it.

For me it's a tossup between three. The Roxy Music Country Life tour, Little Feat Dixie Chicken, or Gentle Giant touring Free Hand. Three shows I am amazed I had the opportunity to experience.

July 24, 1988 at the "Van Halen: Monsters of Rock" show at the LA Coliseum, when Metallica came out mid-day to play the crowd went nuts, tore down the fencing around the floor seats, stormed the stage and eventually started throwing chairs on stage. I found some footage of it (see below). I was sitting comfortably in the stands away from the mayhem but it was a great vantage point to watch the chaos unfold. Fun times!

Allman Brothers Band 1991 at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. They were some kinda good, and as a kicker Derek Trucks came out and jammed with them at like 13 years old. He was awesome.

Black Crowes in 1994 in Stamford CT, they didn't hate each other yet, and damn were they high energy performers then.

Phish 3 consecutive festivals: 1996 Clifford Ball in Plattsburg NY and '97/98 in Limestone ME, Lemonwheel and Great Went. The performances were fantastic (i think... was a little blurry for those) but the hang was monumental: 100k+ very cool people hanging out in the days before cell phones and scene-kids ruined the live experience.

Hands Down: Pink Floyd. 93' Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour. Gilmour at the height of his abilities, super-tight incredible band, including Nick Mason and Richard Wright, Guy Pratt on bass. No Cranky, pissed off Roger Waters. Unbelieveable light show and cinematics. The BEST sound I have ever, or will ever, hear in a stadium size hall. I think they had 10 separate speaker towers, full deci(?)-phonic sound, like 30,000 people all wearing really good headphones. Saw them three times that tour, will never forget it. The entire crowd in exctasy.

My friends and I had walked up the left-side bleachers to get a better view of the goings-on behind the band and that's when that guy climbed up the tower and did that somersault onto the canopy. The Eagles were all looking up and kinda freaking out but didn't lose their time, lol. Glad the dude didn't roll off the edge of the canopy, but I also bet he never made that move.... the "Security" folks kinda worked him over when he finally climbed down.

LOL! That's very so cool. I only met a few others who were there. Originally, we were almost dead center in the field (slightly ahead and left of the infield) when somehow we connived a young lady at a concession stand to allow me and my buddy to share her and her boyfriend's beach blanket on their patch of lawn. We had "party favors" which they had forgotten in their haste to get to the concert so we offered to share ours. We found ourselves about 20 yards away from the stage head on with the right side tower. I paid for my frivolities the next week with the worst sunburn of my life, but it was worth it. Oh yeah, the fun loving guy on the tower was probably getting some special TLC when they got him off it. Oh man, a lot of stuff is now coming back to me about that concert! :smug:

By ‘72 they could fill about 1/3rd of The Spectrum in Philly, so they put in a backdop at one of the hockey blue lines and played to the short side. That was the Eclipse tour, which featured the material that came to be called Dark Side Of The Moon. Would’ve made my top 30 list, for sure. ;)

Very cool.
I saw them in the gymnasium of Lewis and Clark College.

They were set upon the far left, the black rectangle in this photo facing the far right, the other black rectangle. With folding chairs down the middle. I sat in the front row. Was able to lay my head on the stage. Right in front of Flo and Eddie.
