I like it... I had a cypress tele once that I really liked. Wish I had kept it.

Nice refined shape, pleasing proportions, and it looks like the balance is going to be spot on with that geometry.

I've been trying to come up with something that looked classic, but wasn't just a straight fender copy. This body shape is what I have come up with. This is just a rough cut in cypress wood, no real work has been done to it yet except some routing. And yes, I purposefully slanted the jazz bass pickups like that...it helps even out the string to string tone. No contouring or anything has been done yet either.


Anyway, what are your thoughts about that this body shape?

It seems to combine elements of the P, Jazz, Jaguar all into one. If the lower horn flared away from the neck I'd say it almost had a Warwick vibe to it

Still kinda generic looking. Now with some tasteful contouring, great finish, whole different story.

Don't think it looks so much different from standard. The top half very standard and the bottom half almost like a Guild M-85. But that does not matter a whit. What matters is that YOU MADE THIS yourself. Something to be very proud of. And your choice of wood grain pattern is superb.
Please do not paint it. Try a hard gloss vanilla transparent over a red cedar stain or something that so it will show the grain. It is really quite attractive. Did you contour the top edges enough for you so you don't get edge bite? What does the headstock look like? Take care with headstock/tuners weight to ensure no neck dive at all. Looks like it should not, due to body, so just sayin'.

Am really interested to see when done.
Should be a very fine bass.

IMO (and my eye) ... would love for the finish to not be too flashy. Keep the natural vibe and obviousy emphasize that beautiful grain! I don't see a pickguard on it or pickup covers. Keep it simple!

I think it rocks, and I'm sure it'll rock harder when you've finished with it. I personally wish it was a bit more offset, but that's just me, and I appear to be in the minority these days. I think that would be sexy as hell contoured with a simple trans finish, maybe even top binding. I'd be proud to play it.

Side note: I didn't know cypress looked that nice, that's better than most of the ash I've ever seen, good call!

I'll bet that cypress body is lightweight. You might need to use ultra lightweight tuners to ease neck dive.

looks too similar to a P bass. From a distance of 10-15 feet the difference is barely distinguishable.
