Bit of an aside: if you lay a P shape on top of a J shape and remove the "overhang", what do you get? Methinks that could be a cool shape with a similar vibe to what you're going for.

Thanks. Yeah, I would've loved to of been able to bandsaw it into a few different pieces and maybe get two or three tops out of it that were nicely bookmatched, but I just don't have the equipment here.

Hi, as I mentioned in the first post, I have not done any of the contouring yet. It won't be sharp points on the edges.

You may want to slant the pickups and bit more though... Many people may just think you " goofed " with such a slight slant

The problem with slanting the pickups more is it limits the type of pickups that you can use. If they are more slanted the this, then you need to use a rail type pickups. Since I want to use more standard style jazz pickups, you can only slight them so much and still keep the strings over the pole pieces.

Also, in person, it is pretty easy to tell that they are slanted on purpose. It's a little harder to see in photos.

I definitely don't want to do that, I want them more in the standard jazz bass position, but slanted.

I like the look, but it would be a good idea to make sure it is comfortable to play sitting. My initial concern is with the shallow waist cut on the treble side and the short horn, it may have a tendency to slide off your leg when sitting.

Good point. The only part I never cared for on the Jazz was the "overhang", which I would sometimes call a blob. This could get the best of both worlds.

Here is an overlay of the P and J bass body shapes, and the redline is the combination of the two. Basically the top half from a jazz bass, and the bottom half from a P bass. It ends up looking very similar to a regular Precision. But maybe I am misunderstanding your idea.

That's the plan! Going to give it a slight Amber-ish tint, but still keep it natural. Should make the grain pop really well. And I like it with the maple neck.
