This should be your winner right here.Lakland 44-64 custom b stock.
These sell regularly for $1300 but Lakland sells the b stock for $895. Just get on their email list.
What strings do you like on it ?Personally ended my search with a Yamaha BB734A. More or less a Fender American Elite for a third the price.
Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass
+1000 Guild Pilot. The prices have dropped on these and way better than any Ibanez imo.You can get a used Guild Pilot for around $500-$700, or less. American made, kind of 80’s ish, but the thinnest neck I’ve ever touched and great EMG pickups.
G&L SB-2...a whole lot of bass for $599.I”m looking for recommendations on a good all around PJ but don’t want to go over 1000 dollars. I really like the sounds I can get from a PJ pickup configuration. I also would like a thinner, Jazz-like neck profile and 4 strings. which one is the best in this price range?
Second that one. They have "B" series demo's for less than $1000. You can't beat these basses. www.lakland.com. Go get you some.Yamaha BB series. Personally, I’d look for an old Japanese one, with a reversed P pickup.
For a traditional P, I’d try to find a Lakeland skyline glaub PJ.
Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass
Not to mention one of the sexiest! The best Fender P/J, period.

Fender precision deluxe. Olympic white, black pickgaurd, 70s block inlay jazz neck. $800 I thinkI”m looking for recommendations on a good all around PJ but don’t want to go over 1000 dollars. I've been interested in the five-string model. If they came out with a reverse P version I'd be on my way to the store right now.Personally ended my search with a Yamaha BB734A. More or less a Fender American Elite for a third the price.
I love the features of that bass, but unfortunately really dislike the colour to the point that I couldn't live with one. I live in hope that they'll introduce some colours more to my taste. My favorites are the Ibanez SR665
I’ve bought/built and sold five PJs w J neck. Then I landed a LAkland Pj - I’ll never let it go and would consider buying another to go active. This should be your winner right here.
And Guitar Center currently has a used one for $899. You should seriously consider it because it’s the best PJ you can buy for that price.
