Your pick for best PJ under $1000

Hands down for me, the Fender P Bass Deluxe Active. P body, J neck. After playing, and being underwhelmed by, a bunch of passive P/J's I finally realized the active electronics really bring out the best in the Jazz PU and keeps it from being overshadowed by the Precision PU. This bass makes guitar players do a double-take.

I”m looking for recommendations on a good all around PJ but don’t want to go over 1000 dollars. I really like the sounds I can get from a PJ pickup configuration. I also would like a thinner, Jazz-like neck profile and 4 strings. which one is the best in this price range?

you can find an original MIJ Fender power jazz for less that the MIM Duff model. It’s what his original one was and what the signature model is based on. Search online, throw in some SD pu’s and it’s the same thing

If I was in the market, I'd definitely go that route. (Or early 90's Ibanez.)

BB1600 or a BB1100s can usually be found sub $1000. Both of mine were. BB3000 is usually around $1200-1300. I have all 3. The 3000 and 1600 sound nearly identical in my in ear mix.

I'm looking to spend around 6-700 euros at most.. have my eyes on:
- ESP LTD AP-4 (or 5)
- Warwick Artist Series Reverso (or any other Warwick you guys recommend)
- Sire P7 or V7
- Fender Player Series (maybe jaguar since it's a PJ)
- Fender Vintera 70s (haven't yet seen anything on these but they look interesting)
big band mostly, but an all-rounder would be appreciated
PJ would be appreciated aswell, but i'll go for anything that sounds epic
what would you go for?

You want a Yamaha, you have a budget, you have a shop where to buy it. It should not be too difficult to choose

I got my BB424X in 2011 online, it’s a fantastic bass. I’ve had a number of other more expensive basses since then, and it always compares well. And Yamaha is very consistent, so I wouldn’t hesitate to order online sight unseen. I think mine came from amazon.

The only thing is the nut width, it’s bigger than a jazz neck, but still slimmer than my American P. I find it very comfortable but if you need the pencil neck, it’s not that thin. I don’t know how the newer models compare though.

Personally ended my search with a Yamaha BB734A. More or less a Fender American Elite for a third the price.

More like an Indonesian Elite
