Hi all

Thinking of getting anew cab for my Acoustic Image amp and would like to hear from all of you.
I play upright, and play a lot in the NYC area I need something light and compact, good natural sound and affordable. My experience has been that 10" is MUCH better than a boomy 12" speaker.
I know of Flite, but they seem out of business. EA seems too expensive to me for what it its...I've seen the new AI cab, but the speaker pointing to the floor is a weird concept to me.. anyone experiencing that?
I've been actually using an old Ramsa speaker that a friend gave me and sounds pretty great... but the speaker is dead.

All suggestions welcome.

I hear Bob Sabin using an AI and a EA speaker cab awhile back (old KAVEHAZ) and he was getting a great sound. I'm still doing aw ight (whenever I use an amp) with the Woods and a GK MBX112....


For me the most important parts of the signal chain are those things that hang off the top part of my torso.

Well depending on your budget there are a few different things that come to mind.

The Gallien Krueger MBX extension cabinet is very lightweight and pretty durable. It has a single 12" speaker. Easy on the wallet

The Ampeg Portabass Cabinets 10" and 12" were discontinued but you can probably find one. Lightweight.

Euphonic Audio Wizzy 10" amazingly small good sound.


AI Ten2 other TB members really like them small lightweight.

I've used a Bag End S10-C several years and it's not especially light for what it is. Worked well with the DB but has a little bit of a midrange spike and I prefer it with the EBG. You could certainly do worse though and they are out there used.

I'm no expert, but i guess I've played through a few different speakers: GK MB 150 combo, AI Contra II and III, SWR Workingman's 10. (Also a GK 800RB through a Flite 15, but I won't count that.)

I've been with a Micro 300 through a Wizzy 10 for a while now and have nothing but good things to say about it. The cabinet is compact and weighs less than 20 lbs. You can stick it up on an ordinary chair and/or angle it upwards with the built in "handle" thing. It's super easy to carry with the EA backpack, and I'm told that a Clarus will fit in there on top and that they sound great together.

And did I mention it sounds great? The Contra and it's downfiring speaker set-up sound great too, but I found that when I was standing right near it I didn't realize how loud it was out in the room --I heard mostly the high mids of the front facing driver. Plus, it's odd shape and shoulder strap configuration made it awkward to carry.

I've seen a number of used Wizzy's in the Classifieds lately. You might be able to save money that way. If you're playing frequently it seems like a worthwhile investment.

Hey what's up man- I think we play with a lot of the same people- i'm selling a few things on here and saw your post on the frontpage. I use the EA 10" wizzy with the backpack in nyc- it's a lot less than the 'suggested retail price' listed, I paid under $400 for mine new just after I moved to the city about two years ago. You are welcome to try mine on a gig- as you know only a handful of gigs around here do we really need to bring the speaker so i don't need it every day. Just send me an email. Later.

+1 on the Wizzy 10. Dan got me hooked on the W10, after doing a comparison test with 4 other larger cabs; the Wizzy won out. Sounds great with my Bug Bass, and is much easier to schlep, than my Acme B2.
