Your take on the Eden tone

Eden sounded good at the very beginning when they used a James Demeter preamp section in all their amps, but it's no longer made, also their D410T was the best sounding 410 ever made, that too, no longer made.
If your take is that Eden is lifeless and boring, I might not agree with you but everybody is entitled to their opinion. I'm not trying to change your opinion or see my point of view either. I'd like to know something though.
I would like to know what amp you think is not lifeless and boring. Just the amp not the cabinet. I'm not trying to derail the thread I'd just like to know what the people who dislike Eden are using instead of Eden. I'm a eden fan and inquiring Edenites would like to know.

Since I picked up an older model WT800 I have fallen in love and can't stop playing it. Through my gs212 I feel it really lets my g&l do the tone shaping. My favorite part of the amp is the enhance knob. If I start to get a little lost in the mix just a slight bump of the enhance brings me right back through. Before I picked up this head I was pretty close to ditching my pedal board due to muddiness, tone suckage, etc but that all changed with the tone of the Eden. I really think it is the best amplifier for instrument level effects.... never thought a flanger could sound so huge.
I'm an Eden fan. Warmth and punch, but very very articulate. The lightest vibrato, and most subtle dynamics come out. The mid emphasis - far less pronounced in the XST's - cuts through a stage mix without becoming honky.
My DB750 has gobs of clean power. I like the 'Ampeg on steroids' comment. I've used Ampegs many times, and they do the job, but I find them a lot muddier and not nearly as responsive.
I've never 'warmed' to SWR - way to brittle, and sterile, for me, and they get lost on stage.

I've just ordered a new WT550 head, and I'm really looking forward to trying it out. My reading has led me to conclude that Eden makes a warmer than average hi-fi sounding head. That is precisely what I'm looking for, so - fingers crossed.

Pretty accurate description IMO.
I haven't played Eden in a few years but I will say that the 550 is a real nice amp. Lots of power, great EQ, crisp tone and attack, but with a nice bit of warmth.
I would've disagreed with this, until I bought a GK MB200.
I owned an Eden rig (WT500 + 410XLT (X2) for 12 years. It's not a bad sounding setup by any means. It's a very organic tone, and slightly scooped.
Due to my back's health, I've sold the Eden cabs and have/am in the process of replacing both with GK NEO-212II's.
Once my head comes back from service (scratchy pots), I will list it and replace it as well.
To each his own...
This is pretty much where I am, especially regarding SWR and Ampeg. I am not using my Metro anymore due to it being too heavy though. Genz Benz SM seemed to be pretty close to the vibe from my Metro, similar EQ control. I think the DI is superior to Eden's. I never totally dug the D210XLT either, always wanted to try out their 212 but could never find one. Once I tried out the Genz 212 UB I really never looked back. Perhaps if I had purchased Eden separates, instead of the combo, I would still be using their amp. I do still use my WTX-260 for quiet/acoustic gigs, with a Hartke HyDrive 112, and as my backup amp.
TBH I've never played an Eden rig that I like. I own a Nemesis C115 but my local guitar store stocks the high end Eden stuff and I've played through a combination of their amps and cabinets.
I don't mind their cabinets at all... although they're a little middy (hi-mids espec) and lack a vintage warmth that I like and aren't 100% transparent.
Their amps are their worst offenders though... I have to do all sorts of EQing to find a tone that I like or a tone that is neutral and inoffensive to my ear. I find that there's too much of an 'Eden' sound which is very modern and complex in the upper mid and treble range and lacks a lot of body. Paired with their larger size speakers I would describe the low end as hollow and woofy without being warm and full-bodied.
Now, before all the Eden fans jump down my throat let me be clear...
I've heard good players on Eden gear and they sound great. There's nothing wrong with the quality of their amps or cabinets, it's all good gear. What I'm saying is that, for whatever reason, with any bass I plug into an Eden amp/cab/combo I need to do a lot of EQing to find a tone I like. That's a combination of my technique and tone preferences and tone requirements. As with anything... YMMV.

i am by no means a modern tone type of player and looking at this pic i can see how you guys would call ********!!
ive never been drawn to eden, back when they first hit the scene i was a die hard trace fan (v4
) so i missed the boat although i will say a buddy of mine had a 410t and it was flat out amazing!! really nice with my v4.
anyway, ive owned and gigged the hell out of them all, so recently i wanted to get something that had a 2 ohm option and was small.
ive looked at and played through tons of micro heads. my fav of the bunch was th500 but i just can't get in to the micro head sound.
to me, they are sterile, then i came across the wt550 and gave it a spin.
nice compact ( at 20lbs i cant believe anyone would bitch about that) and very intuitive.
ive never played a amp that has an eq as sensitive as this one.
yes it is a little more crisp than what im used to but good clean solid state power at 20lbs and when i pump my 2 ae212s it has a low gut punch that is about one of the sexiest sounds I've ever heard!

WHAT.......A......RIG!! I'll bet that is such a pleasure to move and use!!! Just 1 cab for most gigs and when you need the get up and go, add the other. Soooo nice. I'm jealous. Those cabs aren't easy to find now.
yep, magna cart and im 1 trip to most gigs.
i rarely need both cabs but i do bring both sometimes because it sounds so damn good!!
btw thats 2 trips that ill make any day

The WTX is nice but it does not sound the same as the WT. You already know that though. Its not really compact like the other brands either. I'm using a Kustom KXB500 until I run across another micro that can justify the expense. Let's hope the good folks at Marshall try to revive my beloved Eden brand.
You are correct - I do know that. However, you can get it close. The tone stack is not as good as the WT stack, but what is? I've grown pretty fond of the GK MB800.
I love my Eden amp. Also have Eden 210 and 115 but I only use them at home for practice, I use my Hartke 810 for gigs.
Quality stuff and easy to get repaired if needed. the only thing that went wrong with mine was when some idiot de-selected my bridged-mono switch and blew up a capacitor and a diode.

I no longer own any Eden gear, but I once had a Navigator preamp, a 210XLT and a 410XLT. The Nav and the 210XLT (paired with an Aguilar GS210...yeah I know, speaker mixing...) were my main rig for years. I picked up the 410XLT much later because I got a great deal on it; it was absolutely killer, but I think I only ever used it at one show because my shows weren't (still aren't) big enough to justify lugging it...I finally sold it due to disuse. The 210 I got rid of for the dumbest-sounding reason ever: it only had 1/4" inputs, and my banana-1/4" cable disappeared and I didn't feel like buying another. My Aggie cabs had Speakon inputs and I still had Speakon cables, so I switched to using them (first 210+112, then 2x112s), and since I liked the Aggies just as much as the Eden, they stayed while the Eden went. The preamp (powered with a heavy QSC RMX amp) stuck around a while longer, but I got a LM-III that did everything I needed in a fraction of the size and weight, and before I realized it, I hadn't used the Navigator in two years. Sold that bad boy with a heavy heart, but that tone was too good to sit in a closet and I'm addicted to being able to carry my amp in a bag now.
So basically, I never found any tone I like better than I got with my Eden stuff; I just found tone I like as much in smaller and lighter packages. I'm 100% certain that the warm, creamy goodness of the Eden Tone would still sound amazing in everything I do if I were using it.

I still have two of them. I agree they are heavy, but they're so small (even for 210s) that it almost doesn't matter. I've been jonesing for one of those "super 115s" I read about recently though, in case one of those at 40 pounds would be enough to carry me.
Eden is interesting - totally out of fashion on this board, but i still see a lot of it as backline.
