Your thoughts on RHCP's " Californication"

Californication's the only one of the post BSSM albums I could listen to all the way through.

I always thought the chili's stood out for being a funk fuelled party mayhem band. Yes, they can do the melodic rock thing fairly well too - but for my money they don't consistently excel at it.

Fair play to them for trying new things, but I'd probably struggle to fill a CD with tracks I liked from One Hot Minute, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium.

They're old now, it's that simple. They would look pretty stupid running around with socks on their c*cks these days, and singing about dolphin sex. More often than not old men lose that mojo...and start making middle of the road music, a la Californication, which sends me to sleep. Oh, and they don't do drugs anymore, that's always going to have an impact.

Personally, I don't think Californication is a very good album. When I browse through the track listing, I find a few good songs and several hideous sounding ones. I really dig RHCP but this album, on the whole, is one of their worst IMO. I do like Otherside and This Velvet Glove.

Also, I know they are from California. I know they love California. But do they have to sing about being from and/or loving California on every album? (Exaggeration) (Maybe) :hmm:

There's some truth here. I think they do have to evolve in their songwriting. However, I don't think they have to be pansies about it. You could take the things they write about now and slap them into a heavy, funky groove and still have it work. It's the blah music that kills me.
