Hey guys,


I'm in the market for a bass combo amp with around 150W (or loud enough to gig with loud band) for around or below the $700AUD ($500US) mark. I want something with a bit of character and don't mind looking for stuff that's not sold anymore or second hand buys. I'll be using it to play basically funk or rock stuff. Any suggestions?

Genz Benz Contour 500.....best affordable option. The 2x10 is more sought after but both are great. Epifani A112 might be the best combo ever built if you can afford it.

I agree, if you can find a GB Contour for a decent price go for it. I have the 15" version and it is an amazing combo.
Many people on TB have posted about the Traynor SB115 combo. It is an extremely nice sounding combo.

Cheers for all the responses guys,

alot to research now. I must say I do love the fender rumble series owned a v2 150w combo and then the 500w v3 head and v3 410 and it's amazing it's actually what I'm selling to buy this one it's just too much head room and too loud to play at rehearsal volumes no tone comes through I would keep it but lack of funds. Also I would like to see it do the rounds and get played by some bands rather than just sit in my study and collect dust while I play with my new one because I know I love buying an amp that has some stories behind it.

They do have volume AND gain controls.
If be just swapping the cab for a 115 of the same. - smaller and a touch quieter. Could add another if real loud is needed.

Less flashy/popular, but I've been using a Hartke Kickback 115 for ten years for rehearsals and gigs and it's never let me down. I wish it had an effects loop, other that that not much I'd change. From a bang-for-the-buck perspective, it's a pretty darn good deal. And it can get pretty loud for 150 watts.

I know there can be a love/hate thing with Hartke, but in my experience the amp sounds great with all my basses, from a Modulus with rounds to fretless Jazz with flats. And it's easy to transport and carry around.

I'd like to hear/try the new Hy-Drive combos as well, but so far haven't found one to test.

IF you can find them on sale since the price went up to $549.00 U.S.D., but they have been seen on sale for less...

Fender Rumble V3 500. 2x10 config, light weight, great tone, and more than enough volume to literally cause building / venue problems. No joke, the sheetrock ceiling in my music room, and the sheet rock wall behind where my amp sat at our next to last venue, had drywall mud pop outs over the screws as the bass was so lout it was causing the drywall to flex that much...

Fender Rumble V3 200. In your price range, in your power range, 1x15, plenty loud, great tone. Had one provided at the last gig I subbed on. Plenty loud as well. The current series Rumbles are fantastic combos for sure.

If I couldn't go with the Rumble, and I could find one, maybe used, within my price range, I would give a serious look at the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 210T.

You will get more people telling you to use a Fender Rumble than anything else, most likely. For good reasons:
Price
Weight
Dependability
Volume
Tone
etc., etc., etc.

I have the 100 and the 200. They just blow everything else I have ever played through away! That's two and you asked for three. It would just be another Rumble!;)
